Happy Monday!
There are songs that just strike a powerful chord with us. Whether formally written on a sheet of music, scribbled on a napkin or a random riff during a rehearsal break, this sound accompanied by the perfect lyrics is one of the most beautiful rewards of music.
This is that “it” factor people always talk about. When you discover it…wow.
Speaking of which, one of my favorite songs is “Sweet Child O’ Mine” by Guns N’ Roses. Have you heard Slash (its former lead guitarist) play this 1987 rock classic acoustic, with vocals by Myles Kennedy?
Now you have.
She’s got a smile that it seems to me
Reminds me of childhood memories
Where everything
Was as fresh as the bright blue skyNow and then when I see her face
She takes me away to that special place
And if I stared too long
I’d probably break down and crySweet child o’ mine
Sweet love of mineShe’s got eyes of the bluest skies
As if they thought of rain
I’d hate to look into those eyes
And see an ounce of painHer hair reminds me of a warm safe place
Where as a child I’d hide
And pray for the thunder and the rain
To quietly pass me by[3x]
Sweet child o’ mine
Sweet love of mine[4x]
Where do we go?
Where do we go now?
Where do we go?
Sweet child o’ mine
Have an Awe-Inspiring Week!
New York’s Twin Arches
Sometimes, a picture is worth more than words can describe.
“A rainbow appeared over New York City the day before 9/11, and many noted that it appeared to emerge from the World Trade Center site, where the Twin Towers were felled by terrorists in 2001.”
—Nick Sanchez, Newsmax
September 11, 2001 began as a serene Tuesday morning that quickly turned into one of the darkest days in American history.
The world changed forever.
Fourteen years later, the New York skyline and the Pentagon still reveal unthinkable images of gigantic planes crashing into buildings, causing destruction and fire with billowing clouds of smoke, brave people running for cover and heroes running into danger. It’s difficult to put into words what we all felt that day, including the personal connections to people in those cities and on those flights that day.
And those who were almost there.
The awe-inspiring picture above (showcasing one of nature’s best tricks) doesn’t heal the pain from September 11, 2001. However, after so many years, still with a feeling that it just happened, it does offer a small glimmer (and sign) of hope for the future as a rare double-rainbow shines over New York City with the One World Trade Center and an American flag perfectly in frame.
Never Forget.
You Can’t Beat It
Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson are simply comedy gold.
The Meet the Parents films, Night at the Museum movies, Starsky and Hutch and The Royal Tenenbaums are just a few of their acclaimed collaborations. Their bromance on the silver screen is infectious in the best ways, with their character portrayals best described as engaging, outrageous and always unforgettable. Each of us imagines we are either Stiller or Wilson, or a little of both.
In the case of the dance-off in their 2001 cult classic Zoolander, well, there are no words…
Thankfully, Zoolander 2 premieres in theaters on February 12, 2016.
Happy Throwback Thursday!
Is it Determined To Be (DTB) a Mind-Bender?
“Warner Bros. will release an untitled Christopher Nolan movie on July 21, 2017”
—Dave McNary, Variety
This enticing news broke last night. Because of Nolan’s insistence on working on one film at a time, the drip-drip nature of his top-secret reveals is a genuine thrill to his countless fans around the world. And yes, I’m one of them.
As of right now, we know three things:
- The summer of 2017 will be epic!
- Hans Zimmer will orchestrate yet another brilliant film score
- Michael Caine will be in the movie
As of right now, here are five predictions for the type of movie Mr. Nolan has written and will ultimately direct and produce with his family and team at Syncopy and Warner Bros.:
- The Afterlife, exploring elements of faith and science
- A post-apocalyptic thriller, akin to Blade Runner
- A mind-bender (wait for it…) with a mid-20th century/Hitchcock/Twilight Zone aesthetic with a female lead character
- The origin story for a new trilogy of a science-fiction favorite that’s not superhero-related
- James Bond (More of a hope, really, even with Sam Mendes likely done after this year’s Spectre. The summer release date indicates it won’t be 007, this time)
Aside from James Bond, the one franchise he might get his IMAX camera on in the future is Star Wars. He’s publicly stated his love and eye-opening movie-going experience of Star Wars. Creatively, what he would add with his deftness at epic storytelling with gritty realism on the biggest scale with dynamic characters on practical sets elevated by astonishing twists and turns with lightsabers in the ultimate battle of good v. evil, wow.
Imagine that trilogy!
At this point, we simply don’t know. One thing we do know is this movie just became the hottest audition/interview to land in Hollywood.
Although, without a cell phone or email account, Christopher Nolan finds you…and he only looks on the top-shelf.
