Dave Grohl Walks into a Bar in Nashville…
What do you get when you put a rock ‘n roll, punk music and drumming legend on said drums for country music’s Zac Brown Band?

Yes, this really happened last night at the Country Music Awards…Once again, this went down at the Country Music Awards!
Electric guitars and loud drums have been injected into the country music genre for some time now. Last night, however, oddly enough, the awards show felt like a bit of a country music/rock show hybrid. There was the Florida Georgia Line, Brad Paisley and the Zac Brown Band (w/ Dave Grohl) that got the fans going, just for starters. Without knowing how or why Dave Grohl and Zac Brown decided to collaborate together for one song, one night on national television, their unique guitar-drums partnership generated a pulse likely never heard before in Nashville.
“Day for the Dead” is a full-bodied sound, satisfying for any music fan. It does not sound like a normal country music song. Surprisingly, viewers and attendees were treated to this new song by not just one, but by two great musical storytellers from opposite sides of the track. The performance was random, crazy and incredible.
It was great music played by great artists with their finely-tuned instruments.
There is a genuine yearning for authentic rock ‘n roll these days. Plus, country music seems to continue to get more popular by the day. ABC is playing its part in attracting viewers with its television hit, “Nashville” (with Hayden Panettiere), but fans keep emerging from all corners of everywhere…
Diddy + Nashville = What!?
The Zac Brown Band and guest drummer Dave Grohl gave the audience in the arena and at home a sound and visual that will resonate well beyond last night’s performance. As the video clip above shows, one can never go wrong with great musical storytelling if it’s told through the pulse of some genuine rock ‘n roll.
Grohl’s Foo Fighters band mate Chris Shiflett had to be smiling with a bit of shock last night with his cowboy hat on, even if it was just for a few minutes while hanging with his fellow Dead Peasants.
It truly was a ‘day for the music.’
A Super Identity
Today is a special occasion for Jimmy’s Daily Planet: The Superman of Blogs.
This afternoon, I will order my new license plate and it will stand for “Truth, Justice and the American Way.”
I am proud to announce that my home state of Ohio, where Superman was created eighty years ago in a community outside Cleveland by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, has officially released a Superman-themed license plate to the public!

This is an absolutely amazing achievement and it reveals what a treasured and iconic superhero Superman remains to this day. This legislative success cements that Superman has flown not only into our hearts and imaginations, but also into our daily lives outside of the glistening city of Metropolis.
This outstanding accomplishment was the result of bipartisan work by State Representative Bill Patmon (D-Cleveland) and Ohio Senator Tom Patton (R-Strongsville).
This bipartisan partnership is definitive proof of the greatness that can transpire when Democrats and Republicans work together.
Talk about a super job we can all celebrate.

The Addicitive Pull of “Gravity”
“Gravity” has been universally hyped (true story) for its spectacular imagery, filmography, acting and overall story.
Fortunately, October 4th has arrived and it’s now our turn to enter the local movie theater to sit down and prepare for what has been anticipated as a literal “edge of your seat” adventure.
Do seats come with tethers?
The story takes place in Space and the word to best describe its aura would not be epic, but grand. The depth of Space is infinite and unknown. This dynamic alone opens the curious mind to a myriad of unthinkable possibilities and cognitive wonderment.
For those of us who have seen the footage of astronauts in Space, there are undeniable elements of fragility, vulnerability and pure amazement. And it’s these restrictions and once-in-a-lifetime opportunities that simultaneously attract and terrify us when watching the trailers and television spots for the star-studded journey featuring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney.
Just from the trailers alone, director Alfonso Cuarón’s “Gravity” has captured our imaginations and sped up many heart beats. That doesn’t happen with every movie.
The following song is not part of the official soundtrack for “Gravity,” but it was used as music for an emotional trailer of “Zero Dark Thirty.” It is currently featured in the “What Amazing Looks and Sounds Like” section. However, this music fits with this major motion picture too, with its perfectly aligned notes of hope, haunting panic and something that feels bigger than us…
It sounds like something mysterious and grand is about to occur.
The time has come for us to hold onto our seats and experience what “Gravity” really feels like.

Most commercials are okay. However, there are certainly the occasional hits. Whether the spot highlights humor, heart, action or mystery, the best commercials bring a smile to our face.
I saw this Meijer commercial for the second time recently. It’s just a really nice message that should bring back memories for all of us of a moment in our youth when we had to have “that toy.” No matter the cost, we did whatever it took to get it from that glorious superhero aisle in the toy store.
Below is a testament to the inspirational and imaginative power of “The Man of Steel.”
