For my nieces and nephews:
The brand new official trailer for ‘Toy Story 4’ has arrived.
I’m thinking there might be an Uncle Jimmy day at the movie theater this summer. I better start preparing now for the
‘Toy Story 4’ starring Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Annie Potts, Joan Cusack, Keanu Reeves, Jordan Peele, Tony Hale, Keegan-Michael Key, Estelle Harris, Wallace Shawn, John Ratzenberger, Blake Clark, Bonnie Hunt, Laurie Metcalf, Kristen Schaal, Jeff Garlin, Jodi Benson, Michael Keaton and Timothy Dalton arrives in a theater near you on June 21.
We all hear voices from time to time (so I’m told…). However, there’s a real talent for impersonating voices. Enter Last Jedi actor and Star Wars legend Mark Hamill in a recent sit-down interview with famed movie critic Peter Travers.
For the record, the merchandise from Star Wars, Jurassic Park and countless movies and television shows are what enabled escapism normally confined to a movie theater and family TV rooms (pre-YouTube and Internet) to reach new levels of imaginative curiosity. It’s an impactful part of being a kid, going to the movies and dreaming big. So, Sir Alec Guinness, wise Obi-Wan Kenobi, you were gravely mistaken.
If only Mr. Guinness (bet that got him a few free beers over the years) could have heard the voices of millions of kids seeing his films and playing with a myriad of merchandise, all while beginning a lifetime passion for some of the most treasured films in cinematic history.
Obi-Lost that Debate Kenobi more like it, hmmm (just one of those voices…).
Superman, Batman, Ninja Turtles and the almighty…
Yes, you read that right. Rose, Dorothy, Blanche and Sophia are entering the super club of superheroes by way of action figure alley.
“The response to our ‘Golden Girls’ products has been wild.” Funko marketing director Mark Robben told ABC News. “We almost weren’t prepared for the excitement. We created these as a passion project initially, and were blown away when it started trending on social media.”
The four-figure set costs $25 or ships to the UK for £21.50, which converts to about AU$35. It’s only available from participating Target stores and New York Comic Con.

When you consider the Millennial outpouring of a nostalgic persuasion for Betty White (which was a leading driver for her TV resurgence in recent years), molding Ms. White and her fellow “Golden Girls” into pop-culture icons as action figures was inevitable. Perhaps not foreseeable, but inevitable all the same. A sitcom about elderly women living in the same house in Miami, FL has generated enough of a cult following and place in the hearts of those young and old that these four women continue to positively influence our lives 24 years after the show’s series finale on May 9, 1992.
That’s a golden legacy.
Most of all, this toy set is yet another reminder that great friendships impact us forever.
For that, we’re thankful to Rose, Dorothy, Blanche and Sophia.
Jimmy’s Daily Planet would like to wish everyone a Very Merry Christmas!
As we celebrate the birth of Christ, while giving and opening presents to and from our loved ones, please take a couple minutes to enjoy one of my favorite scenes from one of my favorite Christmas movies: The Santa Clause.
As Little Elf Judy would say, “Seeing isn’t believing. Believing is seeing.”
