Happy Monday!
The Americans proved revenge is best served with a 5-2 win in the 2015 World Cup Final.
For the third time in their storied history, the United States Women’s National Team (USWNT) lifted the most coveted trophy in their sport: the World Cup. The Americans absolutely blitzed the Japanese from kickoff with four goals in the first 16 minutes of action, including Carli Lloyd’s hat trick. This shocking start was sublime for fans of the red, white and blue. Two-nil is firmly established as the worst lead in soccer, but the USWNT only gave their opponents a nine minute window to respond, which they dominated with superior possession, defensive prowess and more sensational goals. By the time you caught your breath, another highlight sequence ended up in the back of Japan’s net. And this game proved there was no shot too far-fetched, as Lloyd demonstrated in the 16th minute with a goal from half-field!
The 2015 World Cup Final was an amazing showcase for an American side visibly motivated to avenge their loss to Japan in the championship game four years earlier. Winning their first World Cup in 16 years in the shining sun of Vancouver was a fantastic sight for the USWNT, its coaches and fans. This generation of champions has inspired the next generation of soccer players with an unforgettable performance.
This game was the final big event of the 4th of July weekend and it was the perfect ending to our celebration of our nation’s declaration of independence 239 years ago and our relentless belief that anything is possible, which is a quintessential characteristic of the United States of America.
Have a Championship-Caliber Week!
An Insanely Great Throwback Thursday
Saying “hello” has rarely been so profound.
In the spirit of “Throwback Thursday” and the Steve Jobs trailer that debuted yesterday, today’s blog post will take you back to the real Steve Jobs presenting the first Macintosh computer in 1984 to an audience in awe of a personal machine they and the world had never seen live before.
There are events in life when you instantly know everything’s about to change forever.
This was one of those moments.
The Quintessential iMovie?
For better and for worse, rightly or wrongly, there is one name that rises above the rest in the public’s current vernacular who has defined and inspired entire generations with his technological vision:
Steve Jobs.
From a crowded garage to a revolutionary empire in the new center of the universe, Steve Jobs managed to get his voice heard with a reverberating force years after his death. According to screenwriter Aaron Sorkin, the movie Steve Jobs consists of three scenes/pivotal moments in his life and career. Three scenes doesn’t seem sufficient for such a cultural giant, but the verdict will remain undecided until it premieres. Strangely, Michael Fassbender (who plays Jobs) looks nothing like him. Not even close. For such a star-studded cast, writer, director and admired figure, that remains a very odd choice. His casting makes no sense considering Jobs was a real person with distinguishable attributes. At least Ashton Kutcher looked, walked and acted like him.
To think that Christian Bale was so close to accepting this role, but I/the world continues to digress with a collective sigh.
From this trailer, it appears the film will be accurate (based on his acclaimed biopic), intense and insightful for those interested in his excitingly playful presentation skills, combative nature and mysterious family conflicts behind-the-scenes. Will fans take a big, long line around the corner bite out of the latest Steve Jobs film? Only if this version reveals a major surprise at the end, like Jobs did so many times throughout his tumultuous life and career.
Steve Jobs should leave us hungry and dreaming of something creatively foolish.
The Imagination Whisperer
A picture is not only worth a thousand words, but now it can inspire millions of people of all ages.
Exhibit A: Robin van Persie’s diving header against Spain in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil was the best goal of the tournament. Surprisingly, this moment nearly/does rise to the same level as the imagery of the Germans triumphantly lifting the World Cup trophy. That’s powerful. When that goal is replayed on television, it instantly encapsulates the top-level talent of the players and teams in that glorious tournament last summer.
This goal was the sports highlight of 2014.
Exhibit B: The highly-anticipated Jurassic World was expected to be a summer blockbuster, reinvigorating the franchise that started with the 1993 cinematic masterpiece Jurassic Park. The 2015 film will be remembered for many things, including its dinosaur-sized, record-breaking box office domination. Or how about how John Williams was welcomed back into our hearts, as well as to the top of the Billboard charts after 22 years. Jurassic World was the sequel everyone had been waiting for since watching the helicopter safely fly into the sunset over the oceanic horizon in June of 1993.
Enter Chris Pratt/Owen Grady.
As seen in the film and the trailers, Owen’s prowess for cautiously wrangling velociraptors is a spectacular sight of a person trying to control nature. There are several memorable scenes from the movie, but none like the raptor whisperer. However, the photograph after the screenshot is not directly from the film, but is instead of a child’s interpretation of the aforementioned scene with some parental coordination. And this pose has been done by many, however, this adaption showcases the dinosaur-loving kid in all of us.
This is the pose of 2015.
The image gets your attention, like a certain cup of trembling water…
