Alien Arrival with Amy Adams
2016 may see a thrilling movie about aliens arriving on Earth yet.
Arrival is the amalgamation of Independence Day, Contact and Gravity.
This new movie trailer (released just hours ago) previews intense action sequences involving a new kind of alien, while ultimately leading to a dramatic third-act revelation for Amy Adams’s character that will transcend the relationship between humans and aliens. That’s a sign of savvy writing with consideration for audiences yearning to see a new, creative take in an established film genre.
Arrival’s storytelling may reveal a close encounter we haven’t seen before.
Whether you believe in aliens or not, this movie is projecting a degree of realism with face-to-face interactions with aliens. That, in and of itself, is a fascinating and inclusive dynamic. Moreover, the potential for strong personal relationships, especially between the mother and daughter seen in the trailer, could be the defining quality that elevates Arrival to a must-see science-fiction thriller.
Independence Day: Resurgence didn’t deliver anything close to its 1996 original twenty years later (the writing cough cough), but cinema goers may be treated to a film with aliens that meets high expectations.
Making the release date of something supernatural arriving on the wish-worthy 11/11?
Seeing aliens is a wish for many people around the world, so well played Arrival marketing team.
P.S. Were you also expecting Amy Adams’s character to ask the alien about the letter “S”?
This Story Has a 97.6% Chance of Success
Maybe the only cultural phenomenon that can compete with the summer Olympics in Rio is, you guessed it, intergalactic space battles.
That’s why NBC and Lucasfilm Ltd. timed the release of the official trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story to premiere during prime time Olympics coverage last night. In a wise tactical move, the trailer was teased all week for this Thursday, but never given an exact time. Promos throughout the week cleverly combined Olympians and their special moments and gold medal triumphs throughout this first week’s competition with the trailer music and quick dramatic cuts from the initial Rogue One teaser trailer for a uniquely inspirational and entertaining cross-promotion. Ladies and gentlemen, this is how you develop and execute a successful television marketing strategy that seamlessly transitions into the digital sphere of instant viral video status.
12 Hours Later: Nearly 3.5 million views on the Star Wars YouTube channel and 60,600 Retweets and 63,600 Likes on the Star Wars Twitter account.
During a week that’s resulted in many, many complaints from American viewers of NBC’s Olympics coverage, fans of the beloved franchise (and even non-Star Wars fans) were treated to a movie preview with exciting settings, thrilling action sequences, a strong heroine and a catch-your-breath moment of nostalgia.
Rogue One won’t arrive in theaters until December, but this Star Wars story could very well be given the Olympics treatment:
Individual high points for various elements of the film, as well as applause heard all-around your cinema as the credits roll.
DUNKIRK Looks & Sounds EPIC
The very first trailer announcement for Christopher Nolan’s next cinematic project Dunkirk just landed on our shores.
Watch and get chills of excitement.
Watch again and get more chills.
Using the same marketing playbook as his 2014 science-fiction epic Interstellar, Mr. Nolan, Syncopy and Warner Bros. are offering the first theatrical glimpse about a year out from the release date (July 21, 2017). Given the success and ground-breaking nature of previous films from Christopher Nolan, his World War II story about the Dunkirk evacuation will have relentless buzz and anticipation. Nolan Fans, like myself, have been excited for this movie ever since it was revealed Chris and his brother Jonathan were spotted scouting shooting locations in the French commune. It’s fair to presume that attention for this film will not only last, but build with excitement during the next yearlong time frame.
And yes, I have the exact same question as you: Can I buy my ticket today?
Happy Monday!
Cowboys use a lasso, but not like this…
Wonder Woman has never hit the silver screen before as the lead character. Actress Gal Gadot’s superhero of power, grace, wisdom and wonder was introduced (in spectacular fashion) in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice earlier this year. In 2017, the world will finally be given the complete cinematic treatment to the female equivalent to Superman.
Long overdue.
The first trailer, as seen above, fittingly premiered at Comic-Con this past Saturday afternoon. A full trailer and not a teaser trailer. That’s not nothing, ladies and gentlemen. Although, considering the extensive presence of Wonder Woman in Dawn of Justice, the secret was effectively out of the bag from a few months ago. And understanding the nature of trailers and the tightly choreographed 2-3 minute snapshot for any given film, the verdict for Wonder Woman won’t be determined by Juror #6 (shout-out to last Friday’s post) and the public until the credits roll in the summer of next year. However, upon first glance, people will be excited for this movie.
Oh, and this other small, independent film of a similar theme also released its first full trailer at this year’s Comic-Con.
One thing’s for certain: Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman proves there’s some justice in this world.
Have an Awesome Week!
