The Beautiful Touch

There are a variety of reasons why MLS differs from top European soccer leagues. Culture, tactics, skill, speed, salaries and a business-like approach to playing soccer results in the beautiful game being played on (and in) a perfect pitch. In Europe especially, possession is an important asset. Subsequently, the skill and intelligence to translate continuously fluid ball movement into dangerous attacks in bursts of offensive virtuosity is simply spectacular.

Many players in leagues all around the world at various levels struggle with passing to their teammates with an unrestricted number of touches. It seems simple enough, but there is far too much evidence of the contrary at the professional level. Mastering the fundamentals of passing, shooting, running/conditioning, positioning and familiarity are the overarching keys of great soccer players and teams. It’s only after these elements are achieved that sustained creativity can be implemented.

Bayern Munich expertly demonstrates in the video below one reason why they are the best German club with the best players, but also why they are truly one of the best soccer teams in the world. In a close game, one touch can literally make all the difference.

“Pep’s Boys” in Munich have been known to finish a game with 60-70+% of possession. It’s become the status quo. In January of this year, Bayern Munich had the highest average percentage of possession in Europe at 71.1% (101 Great Goals online). Second was Barcelona, Pep Guardiola’s former squad.

If your opponents don’t have the ball, it’s usually pretty difficult for them to score…

Welcome…to Jurassic World!

Just like John Hammond, the makers of the theme park Jurassic World couldn’t wait to show off what they’ve created. Having recently watched the first official trailer for Jurassic World (featured below), it seems like my long-standing predictions about Jurassic Park’s fourth cinematic installment are as acutely accurate as a dinosaur’s DNA.

Good vibrations indeed!

I could describe the trailer, but we all just want to see what the world’s first dinosaur-theme park open to the public looks like.

For fans of the original (and the franchise), this is the movie we’ve all secretly been wishing for since Steven Spielberg’s dinosaur blockbuster rocked Hollywood and the world back on June 11, 1993:

Chaos Theory may have to be rewritten come June 12, 2015…

Where’s My Bike?

A starry dream realized.

Arguably one of the (if not the) best paintings in history is “Starry Night” by Dutch artist Vincent Van Gogh. The swirling images, as told with brush strokes of vivid, other-worldly colors, has mesmerized generations of art lovers and casual viewers alike. This masterpiece has an eternally transcendent quality and that’s why tributes to this famous painting resonate so powerfully.

Someone even dared to take a stroll on this world renowned classic.

“In the Dutch town of Eindhoven, artist Daan Roosegaarde has paid homage to its most famous resident, Vincent Van Gogh, by creating a glowing bike path that relies on solar-powered LED lights and interprets his classic painting Starry Night” (NPR, In a Dutch Town, A Glowing Bike Path Inspired By Van Gogh).

You can close your eyes and imagine what this wild vision would look like, or you can just click on the video below:

You can ride your bike or take a romantic stroll on this glowing masterpiece.

Either way, talk about following a path to the stars.

Happy Monday!

Yesterday was not only the Star Wars holiday “May The 4th Be With You” Day, but it was also the birthday of a movie and fashion icon: the adorably beautiful and wonderfully quirky Audrey Hepburn.

She would have been 85 today.

Audrey Hepburn stole the hearts of countless men and was the admiration of countless women who were equally drawn to her infectiously playful spirit, impeccable style and infinitely illuminating smile and charm. Audrey Hepburn seemingly had it all, which she put on full-display in cinematic classics like Roman Holiday, Funny Face, How to Steal a MillionSabrina, My Fair Lady and Breakfast at Tiffany’s (to name only a few). The latter film, of course, inspired the 1995 song of the same name by the band Deep Blue Something.

Plus, don’t forget her Oscar win for Roman Holiday!

To pay a tribute to her today, below is a short video showcasing some of her most memorable moments from her most memorable role.

The illustrious Audrey Hepburn will live on forever, admired in the most classic and beautiful ways imaginable, as well as in the most fun and lovingly silly ways imaginable.

Just like her.

Happy Monday & Happy Belated Birthday Audrey Hepburn!
