Yes, You Can(‘t)
What does it mean to be a creator in the year 2017?
One of the metrics for defining a particular generation is by identifying its creators and innovators. The individuals who dare to see the world in a vastly different light than his or her peers are the ones who set the stage for how people to see the world in the future. The reason why my childhood was different than my parents is due to people who innovated something that was currently in existence or to people who created something brand new out of thin air, so to speak.
For my childhood, the name Steven Spielberg instantly comes to mind.
For the children of 2017 and beyond, who will alter the way they see world?
The same culture-shifting giants, like Steven Spielberg, will certainly lead the pack like the past. That’s a great thing. However, with technology constantly evolving and occupying more parts of our daily lives, our culture is witnessing a sea change, of sorts. The bar for influencing large populations has transformed in dramatic fashion.
And each new social influencer, according to YouTube sensation Casey Neistat, continues to change the way we see the world through one phrase:
“Do what you can’t.”
(FYI – A couple four-letter words are spoken in this fast-moving montage video)
So, do what you can to do what you can’t…
In other words, record a lightsaber battle while skydiving and post that epic awesomeness on YouTube.

Life’s Big, Witty Pieces
We all love Tom Hanks.
Who doesn’t?
And we all love Colin Hanks (you see where I’m going with this) because he is, in many ways that are entirely conceivable, a younger version of Tom Hanks. Need proof? Then may I highly recommend the CBS sitcom Life in Pieces. Colin’s role on this CBS sitcom as Greg Short answers the question of whether Tom Hanks could make it on TV in 2017. By the way, that answer is a resounding YES. And if you like sitcoms with clever writing, funny actors and actresses, lots of heart and laugh-out-loud moments, then you need to watch Life in Pieces on Thursday nights.
Since today is Friday and the weekend is just about here, it seems fitting to have some fun and enjoy an interview in which the aforementioned funnyman Colin Hanks answers questions about his father Michael Keaton Tom Hanks.
The comedic apple did not fall far from the tree.
It’s probably safe to presume that the show runner for Life in Pieces likely cast Colin right away.
Dead Men Tell No Tales (But I Do)
Captain Jack Sparrow is attempting the impressive cinematic “high-five” (five films in a beloved movie series).
And there’s new proof that this daring adventure will reach new depths.
When Disney first released Pirates of the Caribbean back in 2003, and even further back to when this film was pitched, do you think Disney’s studio executives had any conceptualized idea of the treasure money the film (and subsequent sequels) would steal take in at the box office?
That global box office currently runs at $3 billion+, just as an FYI.
Pirates are mostly known as ruthless treasure and gold hunters. Yes, pirates were savages who sailed the high seas on ships with swords, adult beverages, beards, bandanas, planks and a chronically low inventory of toothpaste and toothbrushes. And yet, as a result of brilliant casting, creatively endearing writing and boundless imagination, Disney took full advantage of its theme park ride fame and nostalgia to put a modern (yet centuries old) spin on a group of individuals from yesteryear made most infamous from legends, illustrations, hearsay and stories from our parents and grandparents.
You’ve seen The Goonies, right?
Johnny Depp, with help from his fantastic first cast (Keira Knightley, Orlando Bloom, Geoffrey Rush), composers Hans Zimmer and Klaus Badelt and the thematically gifted Jerry Bruckheimer, defined (and redefined?) a past world and its pirates with equally gritty, mythical and larger-than-life perceptions for generations of moviegoers.
Thankfully, there is one final chapter up the always clever, smooth-talking sleeve of Captain Jack Sparrow. Ladies and gentlemen, please enjoy the brand new trailer for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales released earlier today.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales arrives in theaters on May 26, 2017.
The first film in this series was subtitled, The Curse of the Black Pearl. After four successful films, and a fifth on the way, Disney may want to edit that original subtitle that set the stage for this blockbuster franchise.
