This Wild Thing is…Major League

Don’t adjust your computer screen or smartphone, but the Cleveland Indians (yes, that Cleveland in northern Ohio) blanked the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 5 of the American League Championship yesterday 3-0 to cap a dominating 4-1 series to clinch one of two spots in the World –

wait for it Ted Mosby in what could be the greatest sports year of your fictional character’s life, along with all the real life people from Cleveland, Ohio/Indians fans everywhere

– Series!

And what team has the potential to land that prized second spot in the World Series? With the National League Championship series tied at 2-2, the team to advance will either be the Los Angles Dodgers or the Chicago Cubs (yes, those same Cubbies that play at the famed Wrigley Field). If the Cubs advance, stay tuned because there will be a blog to mark the occasion on Jimmy’s Daily Planet.

Okay, everybody take a deep breath as we all contemplate the very same reaction:

Are we living in a bizarro world right now?

Before we hyperventilate over the excitement of a potential Cleveland Indians v. Chicago Cubs World Series, let’s relax and allow a man whose career was defined by calmness, serenity and nothing wild.

(FYI – There is one four-letter word in this video clip)

If the Cleveland Indians don’t play this song (or wear those same uniforms) at any point during their World Series games at home, then Beverly Goldberg will announce via the jumbo tron that they have failed as a baseball organization, the city of Cleveland and movie fans everywhere.

Two guarantees about the forthcoming World Series:

  • If the Cleveland Indians are victorious, the entire city will have an identity crisis (Wait, we win championships now?)

and

  • This World Series will be a wild thing for the ages

Charlie Sheen, we know you’re a Cincinnati Reds fans, but throw the Indians a bone ball (literally) with a first pitch, sporting the glasses, haircut, hat, stare and all.

With a far-off movie release date of May 5, 2017, there’s little to report beyond the exclusive first-look above. Regardless, there are still a few concrete takeaways at this point:

  • We cannot wait to hear the new movie soundtrack filled with nostalgic rock classics
  • Chris Pratt will remain the box-office king for the foreseeable future
  • And Baby Groot is precious and adorable

Go ahead, give yourself a hug of excitement.

“Chuck” B. Berry Good

90 is the new 50?

Brush away the AARP card, biting into soft food and staring out the window at birds from dusk until dawn. Chuck Berry, the trailblazing rocker behind “Johnny B. Goode” and many other hits, isn’t celebrating his 90th birthday (which is today, October 18th) sitting down. It looks like Mr. Berry still has a few fresh beats in his head that will keep him (and us) rockin’ and rollin’ well into the new year.

Berry’s new album –  titled “Chuck” – will arrive in 2017 via Dualtone Records. His last album of original music was 1979’s “Rock It.” According to a press release, “Chuck” consists of songs written by Berry and was recorded in studios around his hometown of St. Louis, Missouri.
–Mike Ayers, Wall Street Journal

Thanks to my dad and his brother, I had the unforgettable chance to see experience Chuck Berry play his greatest hits in a tiny club in St. Louis, Missouri more than a decade ago. The true magic of that evening was that Mr. Berry, despite his towering age, did THE “Duck Walk” during his priceless performance of “Johnny B. Goode.” Everyone in the room was mesmerized with a smile as wide as the Gateway Arch. Knowing that the man himself is still musically inspired on his 90th birthday for a forthcoming album should bring a smile to everyone’s face.

A Dream of Mine: I think if somebody could arrange for Michael J. Fox to recreate that scene (as best as he can and is able) on the Academy Awards, in some form, to the Back to the Future mode/clothing/setting/high school kids dancing and have Chuck Berry “Duck Walk” on stage to sing with Marty McFly halfway through would be, arguably, the greatest moment in pop culture history. Plus, they would need to make sure to have that phone call from Marvin Berry before Chuck struts out onto the stage.

For now, here’s something that will get everybody to stand up and do their very own “Duck Walk.”

Happy 90th Birthday Chuck Berry!

Happy Monday!

The Bears are coming to town this week, looking to grill Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers.

Aaron Rodgers had a rough game yesterday against the Dallas Cowboys. At 3-2 (how did this happen?), the Green Bay Packers need a big, bold win. And who better to beat than a hated rival. Enter the Chicago Bears. The Packers will host the Bears this Thursday night at Lambeau Field.

Aaron (or A-A-Ron, depending on your substitute teacher) Rodgers may feel like he’s between a rock and hard place right now. It could be worse…

Perhaps a good laugh will loosen Aaron’s arm and mind for that clash with some rowdy Bears.

And then he has to play that game, of course.

Have a Great Start to the da Week!
