Happy Monday
Stranger things are certainly happening in 2017.
But let’s not forget that weird events started occurring back in 1983…
The Screen Actors Guild spotlighted the nostalgic powerhouse Stranger Things as the winner of “Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble” during last night’s ceremony. The Netflix show has been accurately described as Steven Spielberg meets Stephen King. Playing by the new rule of non-network TV (10-episode seasons released all at once), Stranger Things has captivated audiences (myself included) that a season 2 order was going to be a sure thing just weeks after Netflix watchers binge-watched all of season one’s hour long episodes.
And ladies and gentlemen, for any TV show, that’s an impressive feat.
While the award is nice (and yes, the speech by the show’s heroic Chief Hopper and Winona Rider’s wide-ranging facial expressions constructed the viral highlight of the night for the Netflix sensation), let’s celebrate the overall awesomeness of Stranger Things by seeing and listening to portions of the show’s incredible synthesized soundtrack…
as performed by three cello players.
Those string things are pretty cool.

RIP Mary Tyler Moore
Actress Mary Tyler Moore has died at the age of 80.
Mary Tyler Moore was a television icon not only for her influence in the evolving sitcom format, but also as a leading actress. There are few words that can be expressed right now. However, the following video clip of the final curtain call for The Mary Tyler Moore Show that aired on March 19, 1977 seems like a fitting goodbye in this grim moment.
RIP Mary Tyler Moore.
It’s Oscar Season…La La La
Will La La Land be Titanic at the Academy Awards way back in 1998?
Or Titanic the ship in reality…
The musical sensation La La Land has tied James Camerson’s cinematic epic Titanic (and All About Eve) with 14 Oscar nominations. Released at the end of 2016, the film starring the much-awaited Crazy, Stupid, Love reunion between Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone is the it movie in Hollywood right now. Critics love the movie and, most importantly, fans love this movie. La La Land looks amazing.
Will the romantic musical dominate the 89th Academy Awards?

President Donald Trump.
That is a real sentence, ladies and gentlemen.
January 20, 2017 will go down in history as the day when Donald Trump (yes, that Donald Trump) was officially sworn in as the 45th President of the United States of America. This really happened. Major policy decisions at the federal level will be significantly influenced by President Trump, the businessman and reality TV populist who became the leader of the free world. What will the next four years look like?
Who knows?
Many Americans (and leaders abroad) are a bit nervous of how President Trump will act and make decisions on the world’s stage. Fair enough. Populism, thus far, has not earned the megaphone anywhere nearly as powerful and influential as the American presidency in its burgeoning movement around the world. So, this will be an interesting domestic and global experiment, to say the least.
Accordingly, people are slightly on edge about President Trump due to his controversial rhetoric on the campaign trail. Specifically, this concerns his comments that fall into the category of race relations. Rightly or wrongly, the following classic scene from a popular sitcom catapulted its way to the front of my mind today as the peaceful transition of power took place with protestors in the background.
Who should we turn to in this hour of anxious anticipation? Washington? Lincoln? Reagan?
Seinfeld?
Ladies and gentlemen, Donald Trump is officially the President of the United States of America. Bringing up a scene from Seinfeld during this admittedly bizarre moment in American history is absolutely fair game…and, quite frankly, appropriate.
The American people hired Mr. Trump to be the president. And in four years, President Trump will experience life on the other side of the boardroom table.
Until then, all I can say is find a bakery with Jerry’s favorite cookie.
