Fourth Be With You May It

What day is today?

Yoda knows.

In 1977, George Lucas (still forgiving him the best we can for Episodes I, II and III) unleashed his imagination to the world with an out-of-this-world space operatic adventure that redefined cinema and the culture in too many ways to identify and describe.

Need a little proof?

May 4th is officially regarded as Star Wars Day. To be more precise, we celebrate today with, “May the 4th Be With You.”

The movie and subsequent franchise that changed everything was born out of something less certain and more fluid than some may realize. George Lucas, as heard in the clip below, describes the inception of Star Wars and a few of its leading characters. For any fan, and even the 17 non-fans out there, listening to how the man behind the amazing creation of this epic saga realized his galaxy far, far, away is compelling.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to turn on my lightsaber and let The Force be with me.

And may it also be with you.

Happy Monday!

These nice guys just may finish first.

The forthcoming buddy comedy event of the year, The Nice Guys, starring Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling, hits theaters on May 20th. This movie’s marketing strategy was the focus of a blog last week, Hey Girl, Here’s the Story. Virtually every big movie the past few years have included an initial teaser trailer and then two to three more trailers after that before the movie even comes out.

What’s distinguishing The Nice Guys is that while there are multiple trailers for the movie, they are simultaneously producing and releasing clever behind-the-scenes videos that creatively builds hype. The sense is that the actors genuinely had a great experience making the film and that they can laugh at themselves and have a great time along with everybody else.

This advertising/marketing campaign is pure fun, just like the movie that takes us back to 1977 Los Angeles.

And in this trailer, that’s literally the case.

That ’70s movie looks tight.

Have a Nice Week!

Happy Monday!

Guns N’ Roses + Dave Grohl’s throne + Angus Young + an AC/DC classic =

Performing at Coachella this past Saturday night, Gun N’ Roses called up rock n’ roll buddy Angus Young from AC/DC to provide a little electricity (and Duck Walk) on-stage alongside Slash and Duff as Axl Rose was forced to sit with a broken foot. However, despite his limitation, it was recently announced that Axl will tour with AC/DC (lead singer has to rest with hearing problems) starting May 7th in Portugal. Once his crossover with his Australian friends concludes, the Rose of Guns N’ Roses will return for a U.S. stadium tour beginning mid-June.

Injury or not, rock n’ roll should always have a stage available with Fender amps ready to be blown out by a Les Paul.

Welcome to the New Week!

Happy Monday!

The future for Marty McFly and Doc Brown was 2015, but 2016 is when the public can gets its first real grip on that iconic future…

The Nike HyperAdapt 1.0 will be available to every single Back to the Future fan in the world during, “this holiday season.” E.A.R.L (Electro Adaptive Reactive Lacing), which surprisingly reads and sounds better spelled out, will be sold using the shoe’s accompanying Nike + app.

On the business side, the critical takeaway from Nike’s eye-popping news is that while the brain power of their company’s design and innovation team to build this crazy awesome shoe of the future was crafted at their creative headquarters with their minds, their nostalgic hearts undeniably beat in rhythm with each of their giddy customers. Nike’s prowess for telling a compelling and personalized story with their new products is akin to Apple’s genius for the same business practice (especially in the Jobs era).

Everyone wants to see and own that “one more thing” that will change everything.

And Nike’s brand has literally taken that wishful aspiration to the next-level:

The future.

Have an Awe-Inspiring Week!
