Defining Bruce

Because of the nature of life, each of us faces an infinite number of choices and makes a finite number of decisions in our lifetimes. Just as it’s fascinating to study history on a decade-by-decade basis, the same goes for ourselves when reflecting on the person we are at various ages. For some of us, there is dramatic change and, for others, not so much. Our lives are impacted by controlled settings, while also being influenced by variable happenstance.

Relative to our own lives, with every passing minute, we make cognizant and subconscious choices about the person we want our peers to see, both familiar and unfamiliar. Do we appear to be nice? Are we seen as attractive? Do I look intelligent? Are we the same great kid we used to be? These are just a few sample questions we may ask ourselves before venturing out into the public. For most of the people we encounter, they have never met us and, therefore, don’t know who we really are. The window of opportunity is small, but the right impression can make a lasting impression. Some of us put more thought and consideration into whether or not our aura is appropriately glowing (thank you Topanga!).

Understanding what we want on a random Friday night, or in life, can be easy. Or, it can be difficult and spark deep, introspective reflections. The answers can be clear one moment and cloudy the next.

Coming to the right conclusions requires a continuous education of ourselves and of the world that surrounds us, both in relative peace and chaos.

Expect the unexpected and remember the key is being able to recognize when it’s time to swim and when it’s time to act, whatever that means.

Happy Monday!

First, Saturday, July 13th was my One-Year Anniversary on WordPress.com!!

Second, while I was watching the series debut of, “Hollywood Game Night” last Thursday evening on NBC, I was reminded of a remarkable trait in one of the celebrity contestants. Anyone who has ever watched and heard actress Lisa Kudrow laugh knows how amazing and utterly contagious it is once she gets going. Kudrow laughing will brighten anybody’s sad disposition or people with, “a case of the Mondays.”

Without further adieu, prepare to smile and laugh!

Have a Great Week Filled with Uncontrollable Laughter!

Rolling into a Dream

You toss and turn, roll over and flip pillows, but to no avail. In extreme cases, comforters need to be surrendered completely in the battle in order to win the larger war of getting a few precious uninterrupted moments of sleep.

At some point in our lives, we have had to share a bed. This could entail a family vacation with the ironclad pillow border, a head-to-feet deal like Charlie’s close knit family in, “Willy Wonka,” the “get off me you little fungus” gem from, “Christmas Vacation” or a newly married couple. Sleeping in the same bed can, at times, be an adventure mixed with karate and log rolling (just wait and see…).

Sleeping sounds easy enough, but it can require Navy Seal-like training with cat-like reflexes. One of the predominant elements to a good night’s rest is peace of mind. When you slip under the covers, are you prepared for anything and everything?

And as we all know, we never want to wake the other person up, so we must tread softly and with laser-like precision.

Happy Monday on July 8th!!

Today is not only Monday, but…is also my birthday!

On this day, July 8th at 10:30 a.m., I turned 23 28!

Interestingly, I share the same July 8th birthday as famed French writer Jean de La Fontaine of the 17th century, “The Price is Right” beauty Janice Pennington, world-renowned chef Wolfgang Puck, actor Kevin Bacon (of whom we all are six degrees of separation from: “Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon”) and “Big Fish” realist-turned-escapist Billy Crudup.

Here’s to another year and, hopefully, another memorable chapter of life filled with stories of grand adventure and wild imagination…and maybe even a moment when time stands still.

Happy Monday/July 8th!!
