SOCIAL NOrmS

It’s “Flashback Friday.”

And, quite frankly, it’s difficult to beat a Larry David-themed flashback post. So, therefore, here is comedic genius Larry David (Seinfeld, Curb Your Enthusiasm) with his takes on social norms.

These are comedic bits about nothing that was actually about something pretty, pretty, pretty…funny!

I, Margot, Am an International Woman

Today is International Women’s Day.

This is a great occasion to celebrate, as the world is filled with women who are and have made amazing contributions in a variety of ways. Whether it be personal or professional (or both), women are doing terrific things every day that positively impact society. And that’s actually the important thing to take away from today. Why is it just one day? Shouldn’t women be recognized on a daily basis?

Well, time to step off the soapbox. In honor of International Women’s Day, I want to spotlight my favorite international woman:

Australian actress Margot Robbie, who recently starred in I, Tonya.

That’s what it means to celebrate International Women’s Day, right?

Don’t Sleep on the Brazilian Rainforest. From What I Hear…

The psychology of sleeping is funny.

As Daylight Savings approaches this Sunday, it’s essential that we are getting all the sleep we can these days. Some nights we fall right to sleep, while other nights can involve a lot of staring into the darkness for no particular reason or effectiveness. The latter is (hopefully) a very rare occurrence. But still, why does it happen? Was it something we ate? Something we drank? Are we cognitively consumed with something important, either consciously or unconsciously?

Might be time to consult a psychiatrist (or two).

Don’t forget to turn off the lights, set your alarm, and to kick-out your annoying TV brother who is spending the night.

Winnie: The New Story

When you hear the name Winnie, what comes to mind? The Wonder Years? Hocus Pocus? Tuck Everlasting?

Actually, the most popular answer is unquestionably Winnie-the-Pooh.

Jimmy’s Daily Planet covers a myriad of topics and subjects, one of which being the latest movie trailers for films that appear to have a special “it” factor.

Enter Disney’s current project.

Considering the eternal connection between captivating books and Hollywood filmmakers, it should be no surprise that literary favorites from childhood for several generations–like Winnie-the-Pooh–receive its due in the form of silver screen treatments. Last year, the Fox Searchlight major motion picture Goodbye Christopher Robin hit theaters and received positive reviews. This year, Disney is preparing its take on the popular heartwarming character and accompanying story with the more succinct title Christopher Robin starring Ewan McGregor as the lead character.

We’ll never say goodbye to Christopher Robin or Winnie-the-Pooh as they continue to renew our childlike wonder and imagination.

P.S. I’m sensing a nieces-and-nephews day at the theater later this year…
