The Next Mannequin Challenge
Let’s face it: Nothing’s ever going to stop, well, “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now” by Starship.
Yesterday’s blog (Stay Calm and Don’t Carry On) spotlighted the latest craze that’s been sweeping the nation: “The Mannequin Challenge.” And, as was mentioned in the aforementioned blog post, the true inspiration for this 2016 cultural phenomenon is the 1987 movie Mannequin.
The song, “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now,” became synonymous with the classic ’80s film. You cannot think about one without the other. Incredible. This package deal of warm, fun memories from yesteryear continues to prove its worth far beyond its post-1987 future. Especially following a contentious presidential election, the American people are in need of the eternal reminder that everything will be okay. This is true regardless of who you voted for or who you wanted to win last night. One of the greatest pillars of the amazing American experiment is to relentlessly strive for “a more perfect union.” Not perfect, but more perfect. It’s a never-ending journey and pursuit.
America can be like bickering siblings going through very difficult times. Tensions run high and nobody wants to talk or start the conversation towards reconciliation. That’s when the goofy brother takes center stage to bring at least a couple minutes of some much needed levity.
I challenge everyone to take a few minutes out of their day to dance to “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now” with somebody or a group of people and record the experience. I think we all need this for a variety of reasons.
Now isn’t the time to just stand still.
Stay Calm and Don’t Carry On
Who knew that the 1987 movie Mannequin would inspire a craze in November 2016?
The latest video trend that’s spreading across the country is a freeze-framing act called the “Mannequin Challenge.” The object of this activity is to create a scene and for the participants to stand or pose perfectly still while a video camera pans the scene to capture the moment.
One thing is certain: The “Mannequin Challenge” is substantially better than planking.
While freezing time may seem like a strange diversion from productive activities, there are elements of unity and creativity between the participants. The “Mannequin Challenge,” like social media, is proving to be a fun bridge for bringing people together in entertaining and bonding fashion. There is a feeling of being a part of something bigger through the lens of something positive and lighthearted.
Andrew McCarthy and Kim Cattrall (Mannequin stars) have to think this is pretty co-

P.S. Let’s flashback to the original mannequin and that unforgettable song…
Happy Monday!
Tomorrow is the day…
This presidential election has been unusually consumed and driven by negativity and dire forecasts for our future. While it’s true that every election (national, state and local) is competitive and has the potential to get heated, we must figure out ways to overcome the divisiveness by proposing an appealingly positive vision. The reassuring saving grace to remember is that the future isn’t predetermined and, if people are able to bottle their individual energy and ideas into a force for the better, then one of those moments that redefine sciety can happen.
The greatest part of America isn’t the president, but the American people. And if our leaders remember this eternal truth, then our future can be the best of what we the people envision.
For the time between now and election day tomorrow, here’s a reminder of the wonder and happiness that is our world when two completely different beings come together for a moment of sheer joy.
A baby penguin and a zoologist for the win.

There’s Plenty of Time to Wonder…
7 months and counting.
The first cinematic treatment for Wonder Woman (not counting a TV movie) is set to hit movie theaters on June 2, 2017. Yes, that’s 7 months away. And yet, incredibly, the intrigue for this groundbreaking film won’t lose intensity between now and then. The amazing Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman) and visionary director Patty Jenkins are leading this game-changing superhero film in an industry that’s currently dominated by male superheroes. The pop culture history, significance and impact of Superman and Batman (as just two examples) is remarkable and surreal.
These superheroes are societal icons.
Having said that, women and young girls need a superhero and icon akin to Superman/Kal-El/Clark Kent on the big screen and in toy stores to directly relate to. Thankfully, that day will be arriving soon. Until next June, please check out the brand new trailer for Wonder Woman.
This trailer lasso together a wonderful truth:
Wonder Woman will change the world in amazing ways we cannot (and can) imagine.
