A Friendly Joke
When life imitates art…or a favorite sitcom character.
Some days just require a joke. And today, Throwback Thursday, seems like the perfect setting for such entertainment.
Now, time for a savvy joke for the ages from a few years back.
Matthew Perry’s joke is classic Chandler Bing.
Happy Throwback Thursday!
A Fresh Return
“Throwback Thursday” got a little jazzy today.
Nostalgia has a very special place in all of our hearts and the past few years has been glorious/surreal in celebrating the 20th, 25th and 30th anniversaries of amazing films and television shows that made up a golden era of funny and witty entertainment.
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air is a prime example and Smith’s announcement is great news that DJ Jazzy Jeff will be known to multiple generations as “their DJ.” The positive feelings and memories towards this show and characters is great. Kids who grew up with the series are now showing their kids the reruns cleverly filled with humor, life lessons and the official dance moves to Tom Jones.
The good news for Will Smith and Jazzy Jeff is that parents today just may understand what they’re singing about.
Halloween’s Friendly Host
Casper is a scary fun family Halloween movie, while Halloween is just scary.
The celebration of carving pumpkins, brushing away cobwebs, avoiding black cats, ghosts, goblins, vampires and witches and watching kids (and adults) dress up as superheroes, athletes, musicians, celebrities, current event phenomenons and virtually any character is a great time to gauge society’s preferences and pop-culture’s influences. Culturally speaking, All Hallows’ Eve is an entertaining annual snapshot of who we are.
And on this “Throwback Thursday,” we can never forget the classic (and sometimes underrated) stories that bring this tradition to life with an unmistakable impression.
Well played 1995!
The Key to Nostalgia
The following video clip justifies why “Throwback Thursday” exists.
Masters of the Universe features worlds from other dimensions, the epic battle of good vs. evil, exciting action and a cast that includes Dolph Lundgren (He-Man), Frank Langella (Skeletor) and the fresh-faced 23-year-old Courteney Cox (Julie Winston).
After helping shape the world of Asgard, “Thor” scribe Christopher Yost is now ready to head to Eternia to help He-Man return to the bigscreen.
Sony Pictures and Escape Artists have tapped Yost to do a rewrite on its reboot of “Masters of the Universe.”
–Justin Kroll, Variety (August 19, 2015)
The major motion picture Masters of the Universe (believe it or not) from the ’80s set a very high bar for the current reboot to reach towards.
It defined this story and characters for entire generations.
This is a treasured franchise and the movie did essentially everything right for the time it was written and produced. Its clever adaptation, perfect settings, optimistic innocence, danger in the form of shooting lasers and a floating throne and the casting of known and unknown actors and actresses are just a few reasons why this film is an important superhero classic.
As your blogging friend, I highly-recommend this movie from a past dimension/1987!
