The Master Thespian is Standing Up
Live from Columbus, Ohio, it’s Jon Lovitz!
The aforementioned SNL great Jon Lovitz will be performing stand-up comedy tonight at the Columbus Funny Bone. Thankfully, I will be in attendance with my dad to witness this comedic master perform his craft. Possessing the same quality as Bill Murray, meaning that just seeing him evokes laughter in anticipation of what he might say and has said in the past, watching “The Pathological Liar” and “The Master Thespian” on stage in a small comedy club will be a great thrill.
Especially having performed Improv comedy on the very same stage just a couple months ago!
Jon Lovitz is part of the old school SNL that’s rooted in cleverness, pinpointed punchlines and outrageously hilarious innuendo. The professional funnyman, somehow, sparks those uncontrollable laughing fits that bring tears to your eyes.
Even if the only thing that Jon Lovitz does is give a look at the SNL 40 celebration.
Yeah, that’s the ticket look!
P.S. Jon Lovitz is still alive.
King Tut’s Famous Stand (Up)
What do you get when a 33-year-old man steps on a stage in front of a large crowd of people in a three-piece white suit?
And no, this person isn’t Colonel Sanders.
Stand-up comedy is not traditionally a profession known for its formality, except for hosts of late-night television. Slightly surprising, there’s no singular formula for succeeding in stand-up comedy. Despite the limited space to perform, react (a critically important quality) and be creative, the best comedians figure out ways to distinguish themselves and rise above what we’ve heard and seen before. These gifted individuals show audiences unique bits, share insightful perspectives and connect on levels far deeper than laughter.
Steve Martin is one of these comedic geniuses.
That’s the rarely seen Double Throwback Thursday, starring Steve Martin in 1978 and Egyptian pharaoh King Tut.
They’re just two wild and crazy guys.
7 Words (& More) You Can Say on TV
Our culture in 3 1/2 minutes.
Remember when George Carlin was the caliber of comedian you could see watching The Tonight Show? George was funny, brilliant and, yes, curious about the world around him. That routine above is not only impressive for its performance value, but it’s a perfect encapsulation of the type of clever writer Carlin was throughout his career.
Every word was written and said with purpose. That precision combined with his insight and eye-popping mannerisms are what elevated him to the biggest, brightest stage of stand-up comedy. He grabbed your attention, kept it and closed every show with that same energy and an exclamation point.
His stuff was awesome.
Happy Throwback Thursday!
P.S. RIP George Carlin.
Happy Monday!
“First off, I want to apologize for having eyes, ears, a brain and experiences.”
Political correctness needs an end-date. That’s literally no joke. This topic was covered a little bit last week with a portion of an interview with comedian Bill Burr. His take was terrific and funny. However, SNL-alum Colin Quinn’s micro-analysis joke on this subject may have revealed the true insanity (no hyperbole) of society’s PC losers.
Colin Quinn: An impressive collection of bland molecular cells without any distinguishable features or opinions that could culminate in the micro or macro disruption of the sensitive nature of a fellow life form.
Colin Quinn: It’s scary how accurate that material is today, but thank you for creatively pointing out how ridiculous this absurdity has become and that it needs to stop.
Have an Awesome PC-Free Week!
