From “Jaws” to…
When something is so bad, it’s good.
This is the undeniable truth regarding the cultural phenomenon known as Sharknado. It swept up audiences into a frenzy like the killer sharks swirling around in the tornadoes0. Written, acted and directed as a cheesy Syfy movie of the week, the combination of sharks (Jaws) and tornadoes (Twister) was too much to resist for people of all ages (suitable for the graphic content, of course). Sharks and tornadoes are eternally fascinating and, thankfully, someone had the genius idea (well, the idea at least) to join these two powerful forces of nature together. Plus, who could resist the father from Home Alone, 90210’s Ian Ziering and Tara Reid fighting off sharks swimming around her house on a hill?
And now, the sequel!
Yes, it’s true. The trailer was recently released for the world to see and, rest assured, it doesn’t disappoint (is that Sugar Ray’s Mark McGrath?). My recommendation on how to effectively watch the trailer below after an initial viewing right here at Jimmy’s Daily Planet? Go to 7-11, get your free slurpee from 11:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. and enjoy the cinematic madness of sharks, tornadoes, Matt Lauer and the subway system in New York City again with a perfect refreshment and care-free attitude.
It’s a suggestion that’s so bad, it’s good.
Ladies and gentlemen, it happened again:
Come July 30th at 9:00 p.m. on the Syfy channel, you know you’re going to watch Sharknado 2: The Second One.
P.S. Clearly, lots of time and resources were spent on the title…
“Heroes in a Half Shell” with Some Serious Turtle Power
“Man, I love being a turtle!”
Recent movies (ie-The Lego Movie) and television shows (ie-Girl Meets World) that feature nostalgic stories and characters have made a point to make them appeal to a new generation of young fans, as well as bring back dedicated fans from the past generation known as Millennials. Not only does this kind of entertainment spark fond memories of playing with toys (cough: action figures), pretending to be superheroes with friends and reminiscing about the glory of TGIF, but it bridges a gap between those in our mid-to-late 20s and our young nephews, nieces and/or children of our own.
One such venture is the anticipated action flick Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles from Transformers guru Michael Bay. The first trailer gave fans a glimpse at Donatello, Leonardo, Michelangelo and Raphael and a small taste of the overarching story. However, the second trailer just released reveals the tone of the film and an entirely new level of action beneath the surface in the sewers of New York City.
An epic battle awaits everyone’s favorite turtles:
Get your best “Cowabunga!” ready for August 8th.
Going Back to a Time When the Beer Flowed Like Wine
While the first two days of this week have been geared towards the kickoff of the 2014 World Cup (pardon the pun, but it totally works) this Thursday afternoon, today’s post will take a slight detour. Before predictions are made for both teams and players in Brazil tomorrow, Jimmy’s Daily Planet has to show a specific video for a specific sequel starring spectacularly dumb best friends. 20 years have past, yet it feels like just yesterday when blue and orange tuxedos with hats and canes were a fashion staple, a cardigan could be easily mistaken for a pullover and the “IOU” was viewed as an equivalent to cash (“Look, see this, that’s a car: 275 thou-, might want to hang onto that one”).
In this blogger’s view, Dumb and Dumber is the funniest movie ever made. Along with the superb writing that interwove a genuine emotional connection for these two clueless best buds, the casting of Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels as Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne resonated far beyond a regular buddy comedy. These two were brilliant together, both comically and as each others’ reliably unreliable lifeline.
What have the Farrelly brothers set-up for Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne 20 years later as middle-aged men?
Like a good burger with just a little extra kick, here’s a taste of some of their modern day shenanigans:
Watching the new trailer is somewhat reminiscent of discovering mind-blowing news for the very first time…
“No way…that’s great. We landed on the Moon!”
It’s kind of like that.
Dumb and Dumber To hits theaters this November!
Breaking News!
Only about twenty minutes ago, the newest trailer for the highly-anticipated science-fiction adventure, Interstellar, was released to the world!
Ladies and gentlemen, here’s our second glimpse at Christopher Nolan’s next cinematic epic:
This November, we won’t be able to look at stars the same way again.
