Happy Monday!
“{I understand we’re in} the place of the champions.”
While Mick Jagger was trying to get some local street cred (well done, by the way), the crowd was thinking they were in the presence of some musical champions.
It was that kind of night.
The Rolling Stones erupted on stage with “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” to kick-off their rocking concert in Ohio Stadium this past Saturday night with 60,000+ fans singing and dancing along. And the crowd was quite eclectic, featuring several generations of people that made for a great environment to see such a legendary rock n’ roll band. Their 19-song playlist (with one special rendition of a hometown favorite) focused on their immensely popular album, “Sticky Fingers,” as well as a few of their smash hits: “Satisfaction,” “Start Me Up” and “Paint It Black.”
Running and dancing (or grazing for Keith Richards) to every square inch of their enormous stage revealed that these older gents from across the pond are not only still very talented, but are first-class entertainers. Age wasn’t a factor. Mick Jagger had moves like, well, Jagger! The Stones emphatically proved that there is no age limit from having unbridled fun.
They put on a spectacular show for more than 2 hours and, perhaps best of all, it looked, felt and sounded like an old school rock n’ roll concert with some welcomed modern flare. They even brought in the Ohio University Singers to help them with, “You Can’t Always Get What You Want,” which was amazing.
Fans stood for the entire night, which just raised the already incredible energy level. This was in addition to Jagger’s infectious buoyancy on stage. Turning to occasionally look around the packed stadium revealed that we were all in this thing together and it was an awesome feeling. And even with all the aforementioned classics that were played and received with remarkable enthusiasm, the moment that got the foundation shaking was when the Stones performed a song that has a very special place in the hearts of all Ohioans.
Yes, they happily went there.
Have a Rolling Good Week!
P.S. This special logo for the concert and accompanying custom-made apparel didn’t hurt.
I Can’t Get No Weather…Satisfaction
Those rocking and rolling stones are tumbling into Columbus, Ohio this weekend for a Saturday night concert in The Ohio Stadium. My uncle is in town for this amazing event, which will see electric guitar riffs, pounding drums and an iconic voice shake the very structure holding tens of thousands of screaming fans. Rock ‘n roll will be alive and well tomorrow evening in Ohio’s shining capital. The only downside is the strong chance of rain.
Except, rain is simply an added bonus at a rock concert.
Here’s some lyrical proof.
Hopefully Jagger will have those moves like, well, Jagger!
Wolfgang, You May Play First
Back in January and February, it seemed like May would never arrive. The cold was so bitter and biting that I couldn’t imagine what a warm spring day could feel like. The sun was on a seemingly endless hiatus. But now that May is here, there’s a sustaining warmth that’s finally landed throughout the United States.
Some may wonder what’s so special about April’s exit? Well, perhaps this annual inspiration stems from a quintessential operatic masterpiece that was first premiered to the public back on May 1, 1786 in the impossibly stunning city of Vienna. The tempo is undeniably upbeat and encouraging.
Ladies and gentleman, “The Marriage of Figaro” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart:
Hopefully, this music enhances your numerically and symmetrically fun 5-1-15 day (May 1, 2015).
Happy Monday!
The Oscars are right when they’re right and they’re wrong when they’re wrong.
While it’s a painfully obvious observation, it’s true. After watching our favorite movies throughout the year, movie fans become invested in a particular story, actor or actress, director, writer, composer, etc. When the awards shows arrive with its unrivaled opulence, the quiet roar of cheering begins in millions of homes around the world. For countless and valid reasons, we hope, hope and hope that that one movie or collection of people win. It makes sense, they unequivocally deserve it for the right reasons. A celebration of great cinematic achievement and connection to a moving picture awaits.
Then, the unthinkable happens.
No, not John Travolta. However, he did show up on stage with Idina Menzel. She introduced Travolta ever-so-perfectly as “Glom Gazingo.” That’s what we call a frozen burn!
The unthinkable happens when the wrong person is awarded the golden statue or the right person wasn’t even nominated. Or, worse yet, how about when Harold Ramis and Joan Rivers were shamefully absent from the “In Memoriam” tribute.
Not cool Academy, not cool.
Then, there are the mute-worthy political speeches and awkward moments. It is Hollywood, after all. Thankfully, host Neil Patrick Harris provided some funny comic relief throughout the 3 1/2 hour extravaganza. Conversely, there are performances and speeches that move us and certain winners who are seen as a validation of what’s right with the movie world. At a minimum, the Oscars provides its billion-plus viewers with a few heartwarming moments, as last night’s ceremony did.
This live performance was one of the things that, by everyone’s accounts, went 100% right last night:
What would have been more awesome? If The Lego Movie would have been nominated for a lot of Oscars in big categories, along with this amazingly original science-fiction space epic…
