Vulgarity Is Killing the Radio Stars
Interesting words to consider from one of pop rock’s best singers and musicians.
Music, like any entertainment medium, can be tricky to navigate as to what pushes close to the boundary and what crosses “that line.” More often than not, it’s the un-clever way in which something is presented that desperately lacks subtlety, decency, and creativity that inspires the powerful connection via a myriad of sounds and lyrics.
I think that’s the underlying point Killers frontman, Brandon Flowers is alluding to by his line in the interview above, “we need to class it up a little bit.”
Essentially, what he’s saying is comparable to a stand-up comedian just spouting off about someone or something without a set-up and punchline that, when done effectively, makes the point in a new, entertainingly memorable fashion.
And he’s right…
on the line of what constitutes original, thoroughly entertaining music.
David Spade’s Comedic Audible
David Spade does not disappoint.
Whether in the ’90s or in the year 2018, comedian David Spade remains one of the funniest SNL alums doing stand-up today. Armed with a quick-hitting, witty sense of humor, the former ‘Weekend Update’ anchor continues to grab our attention with hilariously clever observations.
Some of his material seems like it’s been carefully constructed over a long period of time while other bits feel like naturally funny musings you’d hear if you were in the middle of a conversation with him.
Either way, David Spade is very funny.
And his humor can be funny within the time restraints of the Snapchat app or captured with a Polaroid camera.
A Sequel With a Capital ‘S’?
In the superhero-saturated era in which DC and Marvel are actively competing over cinematic world domination–no hyperbole–there are certain characters that resonate far beyond the walls of dark movie theaters, as well as reviews on Rotten Tomatoes before opening weekend. There are some superheroes that represent something bigger and something profound.
Thankfully, a real person who portrays one of these fictional superheroes understands this critically powerful reality during a recent interview whilst promoting Mission: Impossible – Fallout.
The rumor mill will continue to run as to whether there will be or when the world will see a direct ‘Man of Steel’ sequel. Having said that, Henry Cavill speaking publicly in support of a follow-up film with Clark Kent disposition is great news.
This 2013 film starring Henry Cavill as the title character had a Christopher Reeve-esque final scene accompanied by an exhilarating Hans Zimmer composition. It’s my belief that a ‘Man of Steel’ sequel in the spirit to the one envisioned by Mr. Cavill in the video above is precisely what is needed–and what has been expected–for several generations of Superman fans.
Coupled with the success of ‘Wonder Woman,’ a ‘Man of Steel’ sequel would genuinely help redefine what uplifting superhero movies can and should be in the modern era.
Happy Monday!
The hype for Mission: Impossible – Fallout is building with great reviews being released left and right. As is the sequel to another beloved Tom Cruise favorite…
Tom Cruise and his Mission: Impossible team appears to be breaking all the ankles rules for how good a sequel to an action film can be.
Mission: Impossible – Fallout premieres in theaters on July 27.
