Life’s Big, Witty Pieces

We all love Tom Hanks.

Who doesn’t?

And we all love Colin Hanks (you see where I’m going with this) because he is, in many ways that are entirely conceivable, a younger version of Tom Hanks. Need proof? Then may I highly recommend the CBS sitcom Life in Pieces. Colin’s role on this CBS sitcom as Greg Short answers the question of whether Tom Hanks could make it on TV in 2017. By the way, that answer is a resounding YES. And if you like sitcoms with clever writing, funny actors and actresses, lots of heart and laugh-out-loud moments, then you need to watch Life in Pieces on Thursday nights.

Since today is Friday and the weekend is just about here, it seems fitting to have some fun and enjoy an interview in which the aforementioned funnyman Colin Hanks answers questions about his father Michael Keaton Tom Hanks.

The comedic apple did not fall far from the tree.

It’s probably safe to presume that the show runner for Life in Pieces likely cast Colin right away.

It’s the Galaxy That’s Just Far Away

Well, that reggae band does sound pretty cool…

It’s no secret that the movie industry is constantly reforming the way it interacts with audiences to introduce and persuade people to see particular films. For many moviegoers, however, the content of the film (the story, actors and actresses, director, writer, etc.) is enough to spark interest. Still, this reality doesn’t prevent movie studios (large and small) from adapting to the modern online, social media and viral marketing phenomenon. This includes teaser trailers, movie poster reveals, multiple subsequent trailers (perhaps too many?) and rare insights (clips and cast interviews) for an upcoming movie at special events, like Comic-Con.

And movie fans are typically very thankful for these efforts, especially when done with added degrees of creativity.

Enter Jimmy Kimmel, Marvel Studios and Chris from Lake Stevens, WA for a brand new look at a small budget independent film.

Above all else, there’s one certainty about movies from Marvel Studios:

They like to have fun…and they’re pretty good at this “entertainment” thing.

P.S. Was the decision to release Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 the day after “May the 4th Be With You” a not-so-subtle jab at the Star Wars movie universe? Well, Marvel Studios certainly wouldn’t dare challenge Star Wars on a theatrical release date in December, so…

There are movies. There are films. And then there are life-altering experiences.

This blog post is a wonderful medium to dive deep into speculation surrounding a future must-see movie with integrity and imagination. However, this blog is equally self-aware (the writer, not the “blog”) of when a video can create a greater impact and/or be a great partner with words. As a former student of broadcasting, as well as a current student in a sense of evolving media in the ever-changing 21st century, visuals can provide deeply impressionable insight into a certain topic or individual.

In today’s case, a particular actor said all that needed to be said.

Enter Keanu Reeves when he recently discussed arguably his greatest series of films (no, not the complicated ones with the red and blue pills) and the very real next step of developing a monumental comeback for an iconic character that has and will stand the test of time.

The world universe thanks you, Ted.

Well, not yet…

A Name is a Name is a Name

Happy Friday!

Or is it Happy Day Before Saturday?

It’s funny how much value can be put into certain names. For example, this blog is called Jimmy’s Daily Planet. My name, as you can probably guess, is Jimmy. However, my formal name is James and the shorter version of Jimmy is Jim. Personally, I go by Jimmy. However, I am not bothered if someone calls me by either James or Jim. Thinking about it, having essentially three names is rather cool and unique.

Kudos to my parents for that 3-for-1 deal. While admittedly not as poetic as “A rose is a rose is a rose,” the personally adapted phrase, “A Jimmy is a James is a Jim” still has a nice little ring to it.

For other people, their name is their name. For some people, naming their child is a 1-for-1 deal and literally nothing more.

Just a subtle reminder of the strange, yet awesome wonder that is the human being.
