Crew SC Preparing to Run With the Red Bulls

#SavedTheCrew: Check.

2019 MLS Preseason: Check.

2019 MLS Regular Season Kick-off Hype Video for Columbus Crew SC hosting New York Red Bulls on Saturday, March 2: I’m glad you asked…

While it would be fun to hear a certain chant for a certain former owner during tomorrow afternoon’s game, it feels far better knowing the Crew is here to stay in Columbus with a future as bright as the team’s signature banana kits.

MAPFRE Stadium will be electric. And with the fan giveaway being a Crew SC captain’s armband, it’s a fitting gift for the Columbus faithful who were part of and led the #SaveTheCrew movement being able to sport this badge of honor proudly declaring, “Oh captain, we are the captains.”

Be sure to watch Columbus Crew SC vs. New York Red Bulls on SportsTime Ohio at 4:30 p.m. ET.

Go Crew!

#1: This Isn’t Lil’ News

Anfernee “Penny” Hardaway has officially been named the head basketball coach of the University of Memphis.

This announcement comes after Tubby Smith was fired from this position a week ago. With this hiring, Penny has now made the coaching leap from the prestigious AAU and high school sidelines to the college game to great fanfare. The people of Memphis and its basketball team seem excited for his triumphant return (Penny played two seasons at Memphis when university was called Memphis State from ’91-’93).

“Hardaway was introduced at a Tuesday news conference that was open to the public, leading to a pep-rally atmosphere.”
–Jeff Goodman, ESPN Insider

And one well-known former competitor had some very nice things to say about one of Orlando’s famous Magic men.

FYI – Penny Hardaway is my favorite basketball player of all-time. And it still feels very wrong that he never won an NBA title. Add onto that list his unfortunate string of injuries. Despite all of that, in his prime, Penny was one of the best players on court at any given moment. But more than that, he’s proven during his post-NBA career that he’s an even better man off the court.

Memphis signed a winner in Penny Hardaway in ways that aren’t singularly measured on the hardwood, but equally away from it.

P.S. It would be fun to see Chris Rock reprise his role as Lil’ Penny in some way…

This IS the Star Wars News You’ve Been Looking For

“We’re starting talk about what could happen after Episode IX. About what could be another decade-and-a-half of Star Wars stories,” Iger said Thursday during a talk in Santa Monica.
–The Hollywood Reporter, March 23, 2017

While the original trilogy is untouchable (the originality, cultural impact, cast, story, etc.), if The Force Awakens and Rogue One are any indication of the quality of the Star Wars films to come, then the quote above by Mr. Iger should be received with elation by fans. It’s clear that the next generation in this franchise is being introduced and groomed for their own bright cinematic spotlight. And, thus far, these 20-something and 30-something Star Wars newcomers (Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Felicity Jones) are impressing in exciting, dynamic ways.

Star Wars as a cinematic universe is here to stay and Star Wars as a vacation destination is on-track for a 2019 opening at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disneyland. The latter was confirmed in a report from last month.

This all started with one of the wildest and craziest ideas for a film that soared to impossible heights back in 1977. Amazing.

If these forthcoming Star Wars lands don’t perfectly capture the magic of movies, I don’t know what does.

There are movies. There are films. And then there are life-altering experiences.

This blog post is a wonderful medium to dive deep into speculation surrounding a future must-see movie with integrity and imagination. However, this blog is equally self-aware (the writer, not the “blog”) of when a video can create a greater impact and/or be a great partner with words. As a former student of broadcasting, as well as a current student in a sense of evolving media in the ever-changing 21st century, visuals can provide deeply impressionable insight into a certain topic or individual.

In today’s case, a particular actor said all that needed to be said.

Enter Keanu Reeves when he recently discussed arguably his greatest series of films (no, not the complicated ones with the red and blue pills) and the very real next step of developing a monumental comeback for an iconic character that has and will stand the test of time.

The world universe thanks you, Ted.

Well, not yet…
