Heartbreaking News
Jimmy’s Daily Planet is a big fan of Jimmy Fallon as host of The Tonight Show and from his days on SNL. Sadly, this post is not highlighting his comedic prowess, but one of sadness for the late-night comic.
As you’ve likely heard, Jimmy Fallon’s mom died. Heartbreaking news. He rightly took time off to try to deal with unimaginable pain. And returning last night to the famed desk of The Tonight Show, how was he going to address his personal tragedy after a week away from the show?
Along with Jimmy Fallon’s incredible talent as an entertainer, one of the reasons why he’s so favored is because, in many ways, he’s just like all of us. I don’t mean “he goes to pick up dry cleaning” just like us, but he seems more like of our funny older brother or buddy. Some late-night hosts just have that familial personality. Viewers across the country relate to his sense of humor, occasional shout-outs to his family on The Tonight Show and overall good-natured, goofy and positive attitude.
That being said, there are no words to introduce the following video.
And when Jimmy Fallon needed it most, friend Taylor Swift sang a song with a special lyrical addition…
It can be hard to console a friend after someone close to them dies. What do you say? When do you say something? It’s difficult. However, the most important thing is to let your friend know you’re there for them. When the time is right, even a small gesture like Taylor’s heartfelt lyric can make a profound difference to someone experiencing a tragedy.
Happy Monday
Star Wars is everywhere.
Now that that’s settled, let’s move forward.
The Last Jedi writer and director Rian Johnson (Looper, The Brothers Bloom, Brick) has promised a new twist (or two…) for Star Wars: Episode VIII. As fans all over the world prepare for the December premiere of the eighth chapter in one of the greatest sagas concerning good vs. evil, we are looking for little tidbits of information to whet our theatrical appetite. Not the full meal or anything close to it, but just a delicious tasting menu. And in doing so, we’ve discovered that the highly-anticipated Last Jedi was written and directed not only by a brilliant moviemaker but by a lifelong Star Wars fan.
As the video after the jump shows, Rian Johnson’s enthusiasm is infectiously inspiring. Tapping into his excitement of being involved in a Star Wars film is more powerful than any Red Bull or triple latte.
The Last Jedi is a Star Wars movie made by one of its biggest fans. Therefore, this forthcoming film will be eight kinds of awesome, especially since Rian Johnson has already been hired to write an entirely new trilogy after this current trilogy.
Have a Better Week Than Last Week.
P.S. How does your Wookiee impersonation sound?
Classic ’80s
The strangest thing you can do these days is probably not watching Stranger Things.
With the weekend here, binge-watching TV shows without the necessity of an alarm clock or work to-do lists for the following couple days (hopefully) has returned. And since Stranger Things 2 is still the hottest show on Netflix, it seems appropriate to combine the awesomeness of this Steven Spielberg and Stephen King-inspired cultural phenomenon set in the midwestern town of Hawkins during the 1980s with one of the show’s signature characteristics for this weekend’s impending viewings.
The ’80s synthesized sound from the Stranger Things theme song is perfectly translated into a classical music rendition? Boss. If there’s any doubt that things from the 1980s are timeless, these three cello players have put most of those concerns to rest with their performance seen above.
Before reading and watching this blog post, you probably would’ve thought the ’80s were just another decade.
Now, as you can see, that presumption would be, how can I put this…strange.
Disney’s Latest 3-Episode Renewal
Yes, yes and yes!
FYI- There’s a very specific and awesome reason why the word “yes” is written three times.
The good news is that The Last Jedi looks visually stunning with a bold, daring story. The better news is that we are only a little more than a month away from the highly-anticipated theatrical release of The Last Jedi, written and directed by the aforementioned Rian Johnson.
A quick refresher on Rian Johnson’s work on Star Wars: Episode VIII.
Looks like beloved Spielberg producer and Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy red read between the lines with Rian Johnson and The Last Jedi. Now even more than before, the fate of Episode VIII needs to be great.
And hopefully with less Dr. Seuss-style rhyming.
