There’s Plenty of Time to Wonder…

7 months and counting.

The first cinematic treatment for Wonder Woman (not counting a TV movie) is set to hit movie theaters on June 2, 2017. Yes, that’s 7 months away. And yet, incredibly, the intrigue for this groundbreaking film won’t lose intensity between now and then. The amazing Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman) and visionary director Patty Jenkins are leading this game-changing superhero film in an industry that’s currently dominated by male superheroes. The pop culture history, significance and impact of Superman and Batman (as just two examples) is remarkable and surreal.

These superheroes are societal icons.

Having said that, women and young girls need a superhero and icon akin to Superman/Kal-El/Clark Kent on the big screen and in toy stores to directly relate to. Thankfully, that day will be arriving soon. Until next June, please check out the brand new trailer for Wonder Woman.

This trailer lasso together a wonderful truth:

Wonder Woman will change the world in amazing ways we cannot (and can) imagine.

This Gal’s Got Legs (Musically)

Many of us are still on a high (of excitement) from the new Wonder Woman trailer.

Yes, yes and yes.

The ending of said trailer was especially satisfying because the score/sound for Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman from Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice (courtesy of Hans Zimmer) was brought back for continuity for Ms. Gadot’s solo movie. Thank goodness! Mr. Zimmer and Junkie XL produced a good score for Dawn of Justice, but his Wonder Woman theme is the undeniable high note of the soundtrack.

Here’s a refresher.

The Wonder Woman track is titled, “Is She with You?”

The answer should always be yes.

Happy Monday!

Cowboys use a lasso, but not like this…

Wonder Woman has never hit the silver screen before as the lead character. Actress Gal Gadot’s superhero of power, grace, wisdom and wonder was introduced (in spectacular fashion) in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice earlier this year. In 2017, the world will finally be given the complete cinematic treatment to the female equivalent to Superman.

Long overdue.

The first trailer, as seen above, fittingly premiered at Comic-Con this past Saturday afternoon. A full trailer and not a teaser trailer. That’s not nothing, ladies and gentlemen. Although, considering the extensive presence of Wonder Woman in Dawn of Justice, the secret was effectively out of the bag from a few months ago. And understanding the nature of trailers and the tightly choreographed 2-3 minute snapshot for any given film, the verdict for Wonder Woman won’t be determined by Juror #6 (shout-out to last Friday’s post) and the public until the credits roll in the summer of next year. However, upon first glance, people will be excited for this movie.

Oh, and this other small, independent film of a similar theme also released its first full trailer at this year’s Comic-Con.

One thing’s for certain: Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman proves there’s some justice in this world.

Have an Awesome Week!

Man, He was a Super Hero

The superheroes in a superhero movie aren’t always in front of the camera.

Masters of the Universe, released in 1987, is one of the best superhero movies ever made. This despite having to deal with many enormous challenges. The story follows He-Man and his solider friends as they to find and, in the process, prevent Skeletor and his army of villains from getting their hands on the all-powerful Cosmic Key as they search and destroy suburban Los Angeles. The movie is a perfect encapsulation of the cinematic magic of the ’80s that combined eye-catching practical effects and flashy CGI. As the expression goes, the film is pound-for-pound (or frame-for-frame) a classic that defines the eternal battle of good vs. evil.

And, as the short documentary below reveals, there was an epic battle just to make and finish this cult classic.

True story.

Courteney Cox undeniably stole the movie. The casting director should get another thank you, nearly 20 years later. Similar to Richard Donner’s Superman films with Christopher Reeve, critiques focusing on the slightly unrealistic visual effects are irrelevant. The technological challenges and related growing pains are, as a matter of fact, more endearing with each passing year and viewing. The story, characters and settings more than make up for any shortcomings.

Box office records and critical acclaim be damned: Masters of the Universe knew what it was and was proud of it.

That alone deserves a shout-out on “Throwback Thursday.”

He-Man still has the power!
