May The Fourth Be With You!
As stated on the Star Wars website:
One of the earliest known records of “May the 4th” used in popular culture is in 1979, as described here by author Alan Arnold while he was chronicling the making of The Empire Strikes Back for Lucasfilm:
Friday, May 4
“Margaret Thatcher has won the election and become Britain’s first woman prime minister. To celebrate their victory her party took a half page of advertising space in the London Evening News. This message, referring to the day of victory, was ‘May the Fourth Be With You, Maggie. Congratulations,’ further proof of the extent to which Star Wars has influenced us all.”
For fans of puns, May 4th is a fun day.
For millions of Star Wars fans, May 4th is a special day.
For all who enter this intersection of celebrating what has elevated into a pop culture holiday of sorts, hopefully you’ve prepared a entertaining way to honor the greatest story that takes place in a galaxy far, far away…
Forty-nine+ million views of this trailer is still not enough. It’s ~8 months until the force awakens for a seventh time in the Star Wars live-action cinematic universe (December 25th). The following trailer is the most exciting thing to happen to this space-sized franchise in perhaps decades. Time to get practical, non-CGI chills on this warm Monday in May:
Happy Star Wars Day!
The Force is Strong in J.J.
3? 5? 10? More than 10?
How many times have you watched the new Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer since it debuted just yesterday afternoon? While there are still many questions and surprises that remain for Episode VII, a few things are clear:
- This movie will be rooted like the first three Star Wars movies that premiered in theaters between 1977-1983 to surreal fanfare, which were centered in realism without heavy interference from distractingly obvious special effects
- There are at least 3 new lead characters that will open the story up into new, exciting directions
Harrison FordHan Solo and Chewbacca look fantastic and Luke Skywalker’s narration was a fantastic homage to the character and a past film, as well as being a very intriguing plot teaser…- Christopher Nolan’s cinematic treasure, The Dark Knight trilogy, has inspired yet another movie franchise. This time, it’s the ambiguously broken/battered villain mask of Darth Vader that is reminiscent of the image of Batman’s mask in The Dark Knight Rises
- So far, J.J. Abrams is proving that he was definitely the right choice for this Star Wars resurgence
Go ahead, watch it again:
Only 8 more months to go!
The Stars are at War in Gotham
There are clues for a myriad of puzzles to solve all around us. It’s one of the truly fantastic aspects of life: never-ending treasure hunts for the eternally curious human population. One of the most fun exercises is when we notice an anomaly in a favorite movie or television show. In the case of the following video clip, director J.J. Abrams (Star Wars: Episode VII) continues to have fun with his blockbuster director friend Zack Snyder (Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice).
An ordinary visual tour of the new Millennium Falcon, right?
It’s likely a good guess that this will not be the last time these two directors cross-over their universes. After all, someone’s got to post bail for this guy…
