The Even More Unlimited and Extended Labor Day Blog Post

Hopefully, you had a nice, relaxing Labor Day.

Following a long holiday weekend, it can be laboring to return to the working grind. There are several (even countless) tasks that need to be sorted out on a Tuesday that puts on a rare mask and acts like a Monday, characterized by moments of exhaustion and stress.

And yet, because this workweek started on a Tuesday, there’s this feeling within us that it’s not really a Monday in approach and tendency. Despite the routine being similar to Monday, there’s an extra breath of relief because Wednesday is tomorrow…and then Thursday arrives…and then Friday is here before we know it!

Coming off a long holiday weekend, kicking off our weekly routine on a Tuesday gives us a bounce in our step. We don’t sweat (as many of) the small things. However, those ever-present Monday traits find subtle and bold ways of reminding us exactly what day it really is.

Like this.

That, ladies and gentlemen, is any Tuesday after a long holiday weekend.

Just Back! in Time to Reopen That Bottle

A return to the past in the future is almost here…

Will & Grace (Part II?) looks like it has, somehow, replicated their lightning-in-a-bottle magic from their original run from 1998-2006. Perhaps this magic can be traced to the fact that all the original cast, crew, writers, producers and director(s) are rumored to have returned for a second-go in 2017.

And beyond.

A second season has already been ordered by NBC.

From all the promos and teasers, that preemptive decision seems like a wise move by the former “Must-See” TV network. Let’s not forget that Will & Grace (Part I?) was one of the sitcoms that made up “Must-See” television on NBC. And NBC, with a two-season revival planned before the pilot of Will & Grace (Part II?) even airs, is hoping their network’s bottle from its sitcom golden age will catch a spark to begin its own revival.

On a completely unrelated note that’s likely floating around the heads of every NBC exec these days:

Just how impossible is would a Friends reunion be?

When it Rainns…

the insight pours.

Why is this interview with Rainn Wilson (Dwight Schrute) important?

First, comedy has been experiencing a revolution during the past couple decades with shows (The Office, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Seinfeld, Arrested Development, to name a few) that are focused on everyday, relatable circumstances in real-time. And this brand of humor has (and continues to) connect with audiences in lasting fashion.

What do I mean by lasting?

Curb Your Enthusiasm and Arrested Development, for example, have endured years-long (yes, plural) hiatuses. And yet, fans return with eagerness and attentive enthusiasm when these shows come back, and not according to any set seasonal schedule. This dedication in fandom, in some part, was the precursor to the Netflix binge-era of staggered, relaxed release dates.

Second, Rainn Wilson’s interview above reminds us of the great humor we can find in seemingly mundane, normal situations. With that comes a charge:

Find comedy wherever you can. On your car ride to work, during lunch, hanging out with friends and family, running errands…

even in the office.

Should My New Tattoo Read “Dude” or “Sweet”?

Let me set the scene:

It’s the year 2000…

No, not that video from the year 2000. But this other pop-culture phenomenon appears to be gaining steam (or electrical power, depending on your modern transportation preferences) for a miraculous (a word choice that depends on your definition preferences) in the near future.

If your favorite movies include films like The Pianist, then yeah, you’re probably not going to be particularly excited here…

or maybe you will happy to hear this developing news. Hey, my favorite movies range from Dumb and Dumber to the mind-bending cinematic epics of Christopher Nolan. It’s important not to judge a book by its cover.

Unless that book cover contains the name, “L. Ron Hubbard.”

Either way, any excuse to bring back those Adidas track suits again, we should all be for such a catalyst.

FYI – Seriously Dude, Where’s My Car? needs to happen!
