Happy Monday!
After a fun weekend, it can be difficult to wake-up early this morning, get out of our comfortable bed and start a brand new week. Monday’s are not easy, which is why Jimmy’s Daily Planet makes a sincere effort to boost our energy to kick-off the work week every seven days.
What’s the motivation this Monday? I’m glad you asked.
For July 21, 2014 and the days that follow, it seems like we each need to dig deep within ourselves and find that definitive edge that will give us a fresh perspective for what lies ahead.
And if you can find something purple to sit on, all the better.
Happy Monday!
Midnight in France
When living and breathing in the midst of the impossible transcends into a reality of playful imagination and limitless possibilities, then there’s not only a story there, but a delightful tale exposing the ambiguity and magical nature of love and life.
Throw in France nearly a century ago (a “golden age” to some) and a short guy with thick, black glasses from the Bronx and we can all take pleasure in traveling back to a time and place that will reveal something profound about ourselves today. Woody Allen is an iconic writer and director, while simultaneously defined as a controversial figure. However, taking the latter aside for a moment, it should be noted how he expanded his audience with his inspired 2011 hit Midnight in Paris. It seems as though Mr. Allen discovered a way to feature his usual band of intellectually obnoxious characters, but this time with a sense of humor that is well contrasted with a “normal,” romantic protagonist.
Ironically, the protagonist in Midnight in Paris (played by the free spirit Owen Wilson) appeared to be a younger, wide-eyed version of Woody himself.
Nonetheless, that was then and this is now.
Magic in the Moonlight comes to theaters (wait, don’t tell me…) on July 25th.
From Owen Wilson to Colin Firth.
Wait, forget that. This movie stars the beautiful, wonderfully amusing Emma Stone.
Okay, no need to explain the title.
Kickin’ It on a Throwback Thursday
One of the great things about Thursday is that it serves as the preview to the impending weekend. Being in a good mood today can catapult you to the VIP section of the rooftop party without paying a cover charge. And getting these good vibrations (as the Beach Boys would say) can arise from something at work, at home or something completely random.
Whatever the cause, it’s welcomed with open arms and perhaps a dance move or two…
Scratch the “good vibrations” of the Beach Boys and think of some beats from Jay-Z to bounce to instead.
P.S. Bonus points if you got the music reference seen later in the movie!
All The Things That They Did
The Killers + Coldplay + Bono = A pretty nice little post on a Tuesday.
This happened back in 2009 and the video is a little shaky, but still awesome nonetheless.
To have been there…
It’s great to see how songs can transform with different vocal interpretations.
A killer rendition for sure.
