Fly Us to the Moon (Again)
As everyone knows by now, Frank Sinatra would have celebrated his 100th birthday Dec. 12. On Tuesday, a new addition was announced to the many celebratory projects planned.
The four-CD box set Frank Sinatra: A Voice on Air (1935-1955), due Nov. 20, will trace the singer’s evolution during that period with more than 100 tracks, including 91 previously unreleased performances.

Will the world ever see another Frank Sinatra?
Well, Michael Bublé is certainly trying.
And that’s a good thing, just like there needs to be rockers and rollers and big bands and pianos. Even outside of music, there is a firm belief that past greatness (movies, television shows, clothing, restaurants/dishes, technology or lack there of, etc.) should be replicated in the present. There is the notion that these movies or shows (as two examples) are bold indicators of the future. In some cases, this is true.
In other cases, not so much.
Hence the excitement for 20-year anniversary’s of movies (Jurassic Park) and television shows. Random reunions, official and unofficial (That ’70s Show, Friends, Frasier), remakes or series extensions (Girl Meets World, Fuller House) rejuvenate the hearts and minds of dedicated fan bases.
The fact that history repeats itself can be a beautiful thing. Regarding Sinatra, the new recordings arriving in November will again remind us of the talent and unique character of Ol’ Blue Eyes. His music and persona is iconic.
It will be fun to watch for that youngster who discovers Sinatra for the first time in a couple months and how that inspires a return in the future to the era of the impeccably dressed, cool gentleman with a style and voice that defines a generation.
And music will welcome a familiar, yet new way to entertain us for another 100 years.
The Jungle is Live and Well
It’s time to run, climb and swing from tree-to-tree.
Bringing stories to life is a wonderful skill. Whether an original tale or based in popular literature, the movie treatment typically goes one of three ways: really well, really badly or somewhere in the middle. A well-known practice in Hollywood is to remake classic films. Disney certainly falls into this category and their latest cinematic upgrade involves the overwhelmingly dangerous and exciting life of a young boy who lives deep in the jungle.
The Jungle Book’s latest live-action vision arrives April 15, 2016.
The bare necessities of the story seem to be there.
Happy Monday!
There are songs that just strike a powerful chord with us. Whether formally written on a sheet of music, scribbled on a napkin or a random riff during a rehearsal break, this sound accompanied by the perfect lyrics is one of the most beautiful rewards of music.
This is that “it” factor people always talk about. When you discover it…wow.
Speaking of which, one of my favorite songs is “Sweet Child O’ Mine” by Guns N’ Roses. Have you heard Slash (its former lead guitarist) play this 1987 rock classic acoustic, with vocals by Myles Kennedy?
Now you have.
She’s got a smile that it seems to me
Reminds me of childhood memories
Where everything
Was as fresh as the bright blue skyNow and then when I see her face
She takes me away to that special place
And if I stared too long
I’d probably break down and crySweet child o’ mine
Sweet love of mineShe’s got eyes of the bluest skies
As if they thought of rain
I’d hate to look into those eyes
And see an ounce of painHer hair reminds me of a warm safe place
Where as a child I’d hide
And pray for the thunder and the rain
To quietly pass me by[3x]
Sweet child o’ mine
Sweet love of mine[4x]
Where do we go?
Where do we go now?
Where do we go?
Sweet child o’ mine

You Can’t Beat It
Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson are simply comedy gold.
The Meet the Parents films, Night at the Museum movies, Starsky and Hutch and The Royal Tenenbaums are just a few of their acclaimed collaborations. Their bromance on the silver screen is infectious in the best ways, with their character portrayals best described as engaging, outrageous and always unforgettable. Each of us imagines we are either Stiller or Wilson, or a little of both.
In the case of the dance-off in their 2001 cult classic Zoolander, well, there are no words…
Thankfully, Zoolander 2 premieres in theaters on February 12, 2016.
Happy Throwback Thursday!
