How can we best tell our story to the world?
According to Steven Spielberg, we can best tell our story by projecting it with the people in it…along with a little imagination and uncertainty.
Spielberg, a forthcoming HBO documentary, is a double-edged sword.
On the one hand, I (and most likely everyone else on the planet) cannot wait to see this in-depth look into everything Steven Spielberg. The man is a cinematic and storytelling trailblazer. On the other hand, the fact that an in-depth documentary about Steven Spielberg’s life has been filmed, produced and is ready for showtime HBO means that he’s lived a full life and that it’s now time to just reflect…?
Fortunately, the greatest filmmaker in history (my humble opinion) isn’t slowing down one bit.
Ready Player One, directed by the man, the myth and the legend, is set for release with high-anticipation next year. Then, of course, the famed director has another Indiana Jones film. Plus, he has at least a couple more Jurassic World’s to produce and guide during the next several years.
That’s the good news. Now here’s some more. We won’t just be entertained by Steven Spielberg’s imaginative movies about virtual reality, genetically modified dinosaurs causing chaos in the modern world or an adventurous professor from the mid-20th century. Moreover, we’ll be entertained by stories about, well, ourselves. That’s the true storytelling genius of Spielberg.
He suspends focus on himself in order for all of us to believe in ourselves in ways we never thought possible.
And an accompanying John Williams score doesn’t hurt either…
Spielberg premieres on HBO on Saturday, October 7th.
A Record of Human History: The Hey-Side
For around a year, I’ve been waiting for a particular package to arrive. Patiently…waiting. No, it wasn’t late. This time, the package just took a while, and for legitimate reasons. The contents of which were going to be amazing and, honestly, out of this world when opened.
Well, at least a spectacular replica of something that was literally sent out of this world 40 years ago.
And this package arrived today!
As expected, the book, the albums and the disc sleeves are spectacularly designed and produced. It’s surreal to receive such a cool piece of history in the mail, courtesy of a Kickstarter campaign.
The fundraising and reward-based company Kickstarter has been good to a lot of innovators, dreamers and customers (like me) over the past several years. Thanks to Kickstarter, I’ve ridden a real-life hoverboard (no wheels, but an actual hoverboard that hovered above the ground in Silicon Valley), possess a limited edition board game inspired by Christopher Nolan’s epic film Inception (that came inside a silver briefcase) and can now play NASA’s famed Golden Records on a turntable and/or digitally.
Simply incredible.
If the Golden Record was re-recorded with a few new songs, images and earthly sounds today, one specific thing comes to mind above all the worthy contenders…
the B-movie masterpiece Independence Day.
Just as a nice reminder, in case the aliens ever got any ideas.
By Now, Cellphones Should Be a Grain of Salt
Cellphones (or smartphones) appear (and are literally) getting larger in size. But that wasn’t what we all thought back in the day…of the 2000s.
Anyways, an SNL sketch with a hilarious guest host who is in the zone, Jimmy Fallon breaking character at the exact right moments (wait, he breaks character?) and Will Ferrell being, well…
Okay you guys, it’s the weekend, which means you’re supposed to break your Monday-Friday character. However, if you work at a place like Jeffrey’s, folding the same clothes all day, laughing on the job may just be part of the gig.
P.S. What is it with Will Ferrell and women’s sunglasses…?

Should My New Tattoo Read “Dude” or “Sweet”?
Let me set the scene:
It’s the year 2000…
No, not that video from the year 2000. But this other pop-culture phenomenon appears to be gaining steam (or electrical power, depending on your modern transportation preferences) for a miraculous (a word choice that depends on your definition preferences) in the near future.
If your favorite movies include films like The Pianist, then yeah, you’re probably not going to be particularly excited here…
or maybe you will happy to hear this developing news. Hey, my favorite movies range from Dumb and Dumber to the mind-bending cinematic epics of Christopher Nolan. It’s important not to judge a book by its cover.
Unless that book cover contains the name, “L. Ron Hubbard.”
Either way, any excuse to bring back those Adidas track suits again, we should all be for such a catalyst.
