Nolanchat

Cinematic marketing continues to showcase its dynamic, evolving prowess in engaging storytelling.

And, in the short video below, it seems like Warner Bros. Pictures has once again rolled out its marketing response (or equivalent?) to the popular video sharing app Snapchat for their upcoming Christopher Nolan war epic.

Consider today’s blog post as just the 15-second teaser for this Friday’s more complete blog post after the forthcoming full-length trailer for Christopher Nolan’s World War II film Dunkirk premieres at noon ET.

It’s probably a safe prediction that a few more than 400,000 men and women will watch this very brief teaser and, consequently, the full-length trailer this Friday. That’s pretty mind-blowing, considering the infinite content available around us at all times.

Who doesn’t have 15-seconds to spare to immerse themselves into a World War II epic?

Update: Here’s the just released second Nolanchat for Dunkirk.

The Last Jedi (Trailer) Has Awakened

The first teaser trailer for Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi is here.

What’s your first reaction?

My reaction can be summarized with three words hyphenated in perfect harmony:

Crazy-awesome-amazing.

The Jedi has to end? Who is Supreme Leader Snoke? Is “Jedi” in the title intended to be singular or plural? Who is Rey related to? Is this Luke Skywalker’s final Star Wars adventure?

While much of the film’s story and crucial details are well under wrap (thankfully), fans have been given a spectacular glimpse into the (potentially) masterful work by director Rian Johnson. The intensity level for The Last Jedi will continue to rise to fever pitch and beyond with 8 months still to go until its theatrical release that will likely make a few more bucks than that Shia LaBeouf’s film Man Down one week ago (sold one ticket in England).

Thank you, 40 Years of Star Wars Celebration. This wonderful event brought together most of the primary cast of the original trilogy, its famed creator George Lucas, a sensational first look at The Last Jedi and a sweet, emotional video tribute to Carrie Fisher.

We’ll always remember Carrie Fisher as a princess.

Romantics say that time makes the heart grow fonder, whereas Star Wars fans say that teasingly mesmerizing questions with answers to be discovered on a definitive cinematic release date makes the heart grow at a rate of 12 parsecs.

By the Hammer of Thor’s Lore (& YouTube)

Movie trailers (which now include the subset “teaser trailers”) have evolved into an art form.

It’s true.

There’s an argument to be made that the trailer (or collection of trailers) for certain films is quite literally better than the film itself. I know what you’re thinking: 2 1/2 minutes is better than a couple hours of entertainment?

Well, men think so.

Anyways, this is why the release of a movie trailer online and through various social media channels has become such a grand event for movie fans. Sure, there are still special previews during major television events, like the Super Bowl or March Madness. However, given the immediacy, widespread access and viral marketing dynamic of the internet (ie- YouTube), movie production companies continue to take full advantage of this unrivaled digital communicative infrastructure.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the first teaser trailer for Thor: Ragnarok that will premiere in theaters this November.

12.5 million+ voluntary views and counting on Marvel’s YouTube channel in less than 24 hours.

And this ever-increasing metric is just for the teaser trailer…in April.

Dead Men Tell No Tales (But I Do)

Captain Jack Sparrow is attempting the impressive cinematic “high-five” (five films in a beloved movie series).

And there’s new proof that this daring adventure will reach new depths.

When Disney first released Pirates of the Caribbean back in 2003, and even further back to when this film was pitched, do you think Disney’s studio executives had any conceptualized idea of the treasure money the film (and subsequent sequels) would steal take in at the box office?

That global box office currently runs at $3 billion+, just as an FYI.

Pirates are mostly known as ruthless treasure and gold hunters. Yes, pirates were savages who sailed the high seas on ships with swords, adult beverages, beards, bandanas, planks and a chronically low inventory of toothpaste and toothbrushes. And yet, as a result of brilliant casting, creatively endearing writing and boundless imagination, Disney took full advantage of its theme park ride fame and nostalgia to put a modern (yet centuries old) spin on a group of individuals from yesteryear made most infamous from legends, illustrations, hearsay and stories from our parents and grandparents.

You’ve seen The Goonies, right?

Johnny Depp, with help from his fantastic first cast (Keira Knightley, Orlando Bloom, Geoffrey Rush), composers Hans Zimmer and Klaus Badelt and the thematically gifted Jerry Bruckheimer, defined (and redefined?) a past world and its pirates with equally gritty, mythical and larger-than-life perceptions for generations of moviegoers.

Thankfully, there is one final chapter up the always clever, smooth-talking sleeve of Captain Jack Sparrow. Ladies and gentlemen, please enjoy the brand new trailer for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales released earlier today.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales arrives in theaters on May 26, 2017.

The first film in this series was subtitled, The Curse of the Black Pearl. After four successful films, and a fifth on the way, Disney may want to edit that original subtitle that set the stage for this blockbuster franchise.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Disney’s Box Office Pearl.
