This Beauty Will Be a Box Office Beast
Can real actors live up to…an animation?
That has been the question for why Disney is even attempting to bring back the wondrous tale of Beauty and the Beast that many (if not all) could easily argue defiantly marked its zenith of fanfare and adoration way back in 1991. And a legitimate query it is. The early ’90s animated movie by Walt Disney Pictures is not only one of the greatest animations in cinematic history, but one of the most treasured movies in cinematic history.
Put frankly: There is more to lose from a (mostly) live-action revamp than there is to gain.
And yet, the trailers and specialized posters for the 2017 version of Beauty and the Beast continue to pass the test of anxiously curious fans…and then some.
With the final and most comprehensive look to date, Walt Disney Pictures has just released its newest trailer for the film that will remind us why Emma Watson’s portrayal of Belle may be reason enough for this live-action rendition of a beloved classic.
Will 2017s Beauty and the Beast meet the extraordinarily high standard of the 1991 timeless classic Beauty and the Beast? Audiences will discover the answer starting March 17th.
Whatever the verdict, this just might be the closest (and best) attempt to bring some of the animated magic to life beyond the brilliantly colorful pen strokes of the ’90s.
Letting Go of Winter
Disney proved they are the kings queens of winter.
Now, they are trying their hand at an island paradise.
The next female heroine will arrive in theaters November 23rd, courtesy of Walt Disney’s Animation Studio, in Moana. Taking place thousands of years ago, Moana (Auli’i Cravalho) and Maui (Dwayne Johnson) battle the rough oceanic waves to save her fellow citizens. Witnessing the powerful response from both girls and boys to Frozen, the warm weather counterpart Moana could potentially spark similar fanfare.
This is, potentially, a very exciting prospect for Disney movie producers, as well as moviegoers.
The plot explores a culture and part of the world during a time that hasn’t seen its ship sail into a movie theater dock. As is the magic with movies, the story locations can inspire escapism, curiosity and, yes, trips to these exotic destinations.
(If you’ve traveled to Hawaii and you like movies, chances are pretty high/100% that you at least asked where they filmed Jurassic Park).
Even though TV fans fondly remember Hawaii from the Saved by the Bell movie and Danny Tanner’s “Clipboard of Fun,” Disney’s Animation Studio will give people a fresh look at this region’s past…very distant past. The teaser trailer didn’t reveal much (obviously, it’s a teaser), but the visual snapshot has given viewers enough to be intrigued at Disney’s post-Frozen potential.
By late November, we’ll know if Moana has melted away Frozen’s icy dominance.
The Bachelorette’s First Rose Ceremony
A real-life guest will be arriving next March.
Beauty and the Beast is one of the best Disney animations. The 1991 classic, stacked in the back of your closet in its endearingly boxy VHS case, helped to define a golden decade of Disney films. The magical nature of the story, characters and settings in the nearly 25 year-old animation has always begged a more realistic take be imagined and built.
Get ready for the ball, in three-dimensions.
In only one day, the teaser trailer for this live-action movie has received just shy of 8 million views with overwhelmingly positive reactions. Will the film succeed at the box office and with movie fans? Very likely. Take a look at the cast:

Will the live-action surpass the original animation? Not likely. However, the teaser trailer and casting decisions (especially Emma Watson as Belle) seem to be influenced by a bit of vintage ’90s Disney magic. In the very little we’ve seen and know, fans of the 1991 favorite will probably feel wonderfully nostalgic in the best ways come next March.
Emma Watson will once again cast a mesmerizing spell on audiences from a mysteriously grand castle.
Except this time, she’ll cause jaws to drop in that famous yellow dress.
