Hear You Me, 23 is My Best Theory

Pure sweetness.

Jimmy Eat World is a band that hails from Mesa, Arizona that’s been strumming their guitars, banging their drums and singing their songs for ~ 21 years now. For any group in any musical genre, that’s a noteworthy feat. Simply incredible. But what’s more impressive is how their fans continue to fill venues, passionately sing along to their songs and bounce around for a genuinely fun concert experience to this day.

Last night, the band returned to Columbus, Ohio and played at the famed Newport Music Hall for 1 1/2 hours of rock. It even included the very rarely seen double encore. There were literally two encores! For any night, it was a blast. However, consider that they were able to put on a rock show inside that felt like a Friday or Saturday night while outside was a normal Monday evening.

A very cool dynamic was pulled off.

While footage from yesterday’s show and/or their last Columbus, Ohio appearance back in 2010 is bouncy and the sound somewhat muffled, below is a video that captures the energy and musical quality within the walls of the Newport Music Hall on October 13, 2014:

Jimmy Still Rocks The World.

P.S. Where’s Waldo?

Falling (& Then Rising) into September

The precision of Mother Nature to acutely turn the dial from the last unofficial big weekend of Summer to Fall would make any master Swiss watchmaker blush. Yesterday’s heat (at least in Columbus, Ohio) juxtaposed with today’s rainy chill was too stark a reminder that daily and weekly plans must be adjusted to soon accommodate orange and green leaves spread across streets and sidewalks, along with the quest for sweaters, khaki pants and brown boots packed tightly in bins stored in basements and attics. For the college football fan, Saturday’s now become a navigation of kickoff times of noon, 3:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.

What does this mean?

It means (in certain ways) an identity refresh. Priorities may change from season-to-season. It can translate into a personal restart. Like any good, entertaining play, the story cannot and should not be judged on the first act alone. Act 2 is usually when the depth of characters and plot lines are realized and understood. All great stories have fun experiences, coupled with a small obstacle or two. Quite frankly, that’s what makes the situation real. That’s how things work. Plus, slight overreactions and/or miscommunications (I might have a little experience with this) should always have oxygen for a sincere explanation.

And, if things get a little chilly, grab a sweater.

Talk about good timing, right?

Happy Monday!

Game 6: Pittsburgh Penguins vs. The Columbus Blue Jackets

In a must-win situation for the Blue Jackets in Nationwide Arena tonight, they need to skate, hit, pass and shoot with purpose and intensity and be as creative and daring as “the Minnesota Miracle Man.”

Sergei Bobrovsky: in order to lead Columbus back 180 miles east for Game 7, you may need to do a little more than mind the net…

That would be Goal of the Year Goal of the Century.

Just saying…

We Are The 5th Line!

Happy Monday!

Obsessed with Modern Romance

This will be an eventful weekend for stand-up comedy.

First, Aziz Ansari will be performing his new stand-up, Modern Romance, at the Palace Theatre in Columbus, Ohio. Then, on Sunday night at 10:00 p.m., Comedy Central will premiere Jim Gaffigan’s new comedy special, Jim Gaffigan: Obsessed.

Until then, it is Friday and if this blog can offer just one piece of advice for today and the weekend ahead, it’s this: avoid kale.

Need more convincing?

Okay, here you go…

His perspective on this vegetable is as sound as his perspective towards Hot Pockets.

“Hot Pockets…”

Kale, your days are numbered.
