The New Face of Wonder, Meant to Inspire Us All
Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson.
Now that I have your attention, prepare yourself for the reality that they are your parents. Well, not literally your reality, but that these two are parents in the cinematic reality for the new film Wonder. The two acclaimed actors, for similar and different reasons, play the part of parents to a young boy (Jacob Tremblay).
Quick note: The casting of Wonder is incredible.
From the trailer (seen below), the characters portrayed by Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson have a young son who has endured scarring plastic surgery that resulted in an improved, yet still slightly disfigured face.
In other words, the son is different.
And in elementary school (and middle school…and high school…and so on…), people who act and appear differently face challenges that can paralyze all things social. For anybody who has felt or feels that way, Lionsgate Movies has produced a film that will inspire new wonder to your world.
This movie is set to take off into a heartwarming galaxy when it hits theaters this November.
Wanting Clark Kent’s (Super) Character
Coldplay’s musical prowess is an imaginative playground with many leaps and (fortunately) no bounds.
Collaborating with The Chainsmokers (because when you listen to their songs, you’re addicted), the British quartet formally known as Coldplay provided a wonderful gift to its listeners today. And, quite honestly, these two musical groups created a visual gift by way of a lyrical video that will spark happy memories of dreaming, love, superheroes and overall awe at the wonder of life past, present and future. A song with a positive, wishful ambition is simply refreshing.
One could say that this new lyrical video that debuted today is Sprite-level refreshing.
Ladies and gentlemen, Coldplay and The Chainsmokers present “Something Just Like This.”
We all need something just like this in our life.
The Stellar Sound of the Space Around Us
They say that “tails never fails.” Except for, you know, roughly 50% of the time. Anyways, how about this:
The ear can hear what we fear, and cheer.
Be kind, it’s a first draft with rough edges galore.
This blog has made the case that orchestral numbers can strike something profoundly powerful inside us that doesn’t necessarily offer confirmations to our myriad of questions, but stirs a wonderful mixture of mystery, caution and, incredibly, an unyielding pursuit of discovery. Once again, Christopher Nolan’s space operatic epic Interstellar is the focus of yet another blog post. This time, the form is the music from the film’s long past third trailer from late 2014 (with admittedly the faintest hint of audible lyrics at the end).
To quote a line from a fellow Nolan cinematic achievement, “And here we go.”
So, where will that music take you?
Wherever it leads you, just know that attempting to save the human race is always a crowd-pleaser. However, I myself may start with something slightly less grand…for the moment anyways.
There’s Plenty of Time to Wonder…
7 months and counting.
The first cinematic treatment for Wonder Woman (not counting a TV movie) is set to hit movie theaters on June 2, 2017. Yes, that’s 7 months away. And yet, incredibly, the intrigue for this groundbreaking film won’t lose intensity between now and then. The amazing Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman) and visionary director Patty Jenkins are leading this game-changing superhero film in an industry that’s currently dominated by male superheroes. The pop culture history, significance and impact of Superman and Batman (as just two examples) is remarkable and surreal.
These superheroes are societal icons.
Having said that, women and young girls need a superhero and icon akin to Superman/Kal-El/Clark Kent on the big screen and in toy stores to directly relate to. Thankfully, that day will be arriving soon. Until next June, please check out the brand new trailer for Wonder Woman.
This trailer lasso together a wonderful truth:
Wonder Woman will change the world in amazing ways we cannot (and can) imagine.
