Rain, it’s Your Turn

Yesterday, at some point during the afternoon in Columbus, Ohio, there were snow flurries blowing around like its hair was on fire (talk about fire and ice). Snow can be fun and an incredible sight, but not this kind of snow and cold. I had the shades drawn in my office, so it was a genuine shock looking out my co-workers window as I was preparing to leave. “What in the world? I thought Winter was ‘technically’ over?”

Driving home, there was no visibility beyond 15 feet in front of my car. Didn’t Spring kick-off on March 20th? Of course, it is Ohio, so…

Still, the calendar is only days away from flipping into April. This means that instead of relentless snow we shall (surely) now endure relentless rain. However, that’s not necessarily a bad thing. It’s certainly better than any Polar Vortex!

Occasional rain reminds me of a couple things, which includes singing and splashing around in puddles like a child, as well as…

(Skip to 1:37 for the rain)

Even though it’s usually better to wish for no rain as opposed to rain, it has the potential to bring with it a fun, magical purpose.

It’s like traveling back in time to our childhood when we just went with things as they came about, which can certainly be a good thing every once in a while in between the daily grind.

If nothing else, at least there’s no frost with rain!

Happy Monday!

It’s strange.

Even in 2014, some people in positions of authority still have to spoil the party for the rest of us. Thankfully, someone still has the their feet (or foot) firmly planted on the floor of reality and is willing to let loose to show everybody what’s right these days.

Ladies and gentlemen, it’s Kevin Bacon + the 30th anniversary of some small movie role he had in the ’80s.

Let’s just roll the tape…

Happy Monday!

Crafting a Role Model

Ohio State’s Aaron Craft is everything that’s great about college basketball. Scratch that: Ohio State’s Aaron Craft is everything that’s great about basketball in general.

In the age of showboating, multimillion dollar contracts, vulgar trash talking and tattoos, Craft is a pleasant and welcomed anomaly from the days of John Wooden, as ESPN’s Rick Reilly put it recently. He hustles, bustles and flexes his muscles on the hardwood and in the classroom for athletic and academic records every single student dreams of having (at Ohio State and around the country) and every single parent hopes to see their child achieve.

He’s a role model. Not just for young kids running around and cheering in Buckeye jerseys with #4 stitched in Scarlet and Gray, but also for his classmates and contemporaries and their parents alike. His effort is as relentless as his honesty in post-game interviews, which underscores the metaphorical significance of sports to life.

In Craft’s case, it’s basketball.

You won’t win every game or ace every test, but you need to prepare as if you will and should. In college basketball, there are only 40 minutes. That’s it. Craft is a prime example of an athlete (and student) who wants the opportunity to win and excel and will do whatever he has to in order to earn those opportunities. Not a guarantee at victory, but the opportunity for victory, just as in life.

If you’ve watched him carefully throughout the past 4 years, he’s undeniably one of the most opportunistic basketball players around, which is what separates him from the rest.

As The Ohio State Buckeyes prepare to battle the Dayton Flyers in Buffalo, New York today, everyone in Scarlet and Gray will need to rise to the level of their relentless senior point guard if they want the opportunity to continue a journey towards repeating a championship moment in Buckeye history from the days of short shorts and $.10 popcorn.

If this were a movie, it might be called, The Human Rubik’s Cube Rises.

Playing “Hyde” and Seek for That ’70s Throwback

Thursdays have become known as “Throwback Thursdays.” However, I’m not sure when this decision was officially signed into popular culture law? Regardless, it provides plenty of fun alliteration word games and flashbacks to the past.

Danny Masterson (“Hyde” on That ’70s Show) was born on March 13, 1976. Here’s a bit of a mind-bender: Aside from Danny Masterson being born on March 13th, the following video clip is a flashback to a popular sitcom no longer in production that features a flashback of how two adult characters from the 1970s (“Hyde” and “Eric”) met as children in the 1960s. It also ends with a throwback to something we all did when we were that young (usually alone, but still).

Yes, this is happening.

Happy Birthday to one of our favorite sitcom hippies on this Throwback Thursday!

P.S. Have you heard about this car that runs on water?
