Happy Monday!

The future for Marty McFly and Doc Brown was 2015, but 2016 is when the public can gets its first real grip on that iconic future…

The Nike HyperAdapt 1.0 will be available to every single Back to the Future fan in the world during, “this holiday season.” E.A.R.L (Electro Adaptive Reactive Lacing), which surprisingly reads and sounds better spelled out, will be sold using the shoe’s accompanying Nike + app.

On the business side, the critical takeaway from Nike’s eye-popping news is that while the brain power of their company’s design and innovation team to build this crazy awesome shoe of the future was crafted at their creative headquarters with their minds, their nostalgic hearts undeniably beat in rhythm with each of their giddy customers. Nike’s prowess for telling a compelling and personalized story with their new products is akin to Apple’s genius for the same business practice (especially in the Jobs era).

Everyone wants to see and own that “one more thing” that will change everything.

And Nike’s brand has literally taken that wishful aspiration to the next-level:

The future.

Getting the Boulder Rolling (Again)

It’s official: Indiana Jones has tenure with his movie-going fans.

“Steven Spielberg will direct Harrison Ford in the untitled fifth installment in the classic action-adventure franchise, which will open July 19, 2019, Disney announced Tuesday.”
Pamela McClintock, The Hollywood Reporter

Nostalgia adds another win in its ever-expansive cinematic column.

Indiana Jones will theatrically throw his hat back into the ring (or cave) and return to the adventure-seeking professor genre to challenge his 21st century rival, Robert Langdon (Inferno arrives in theaters this fall). While rumors of Indy’s next movie has been gently swirling for some time (including a possible successor?), the opportunity for bringing Steven Spielberg, Harrison Ford, Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall back together clearly proved too good to pass up.

The success of an older, yet still very capable, Han Solo in the 2015 indie sleeper The Force Awakens surely tipped the scales for the actor and director alike to crack the whip fire the gun once more.

Obviously, virtually zero details are known about Indy’s high-five to the franchise’s fans. The only one certainty about this future blockbuster appears to be its release date (3/4 past films premiered in May and one on June 1st).

Three years out, the options for Indy V are officially being weighed by Disney.

Hopefully, in equal, simultaneous fashion.

Watching Between the Lines

Remember, “the force” started as two words on a page.

The Star Wars universe (movies, TV, merchandise, theme parks, etc.) is not only seeing a massive pop culture resurgence akin to its 1977 fanfare, but this franchise/brand is restyling movie promotions and marketing. For instance, Jimmy’s Daily Planet featured the release of Star Wars: Episode VIII‘s production announcement three weeks ago, which was a video teasing the first scene in the follow-up to The Force Awakens. That was a first; a hype video of the first day of shooting for a new film.

For marketers (and movie fans like myself), this new, dare it be said innovative, kind of announcement is exciting. However, too many teases too early does result in frustrating fatigue. Fortunately, the savvy marketing team for Star Wars has followed up their Episode VIII teaser with another video that will give fans a much quicker return than December 2017.

Remember that picture of the very first table read of The Force Awakens? The one that brought together the original cast and new blood for the revival of a globally beloved series? It appears as if curious fans will be able to get (and hear) the full experience of that now famous moment.

Ladies and gentlemen: Star Wars presents…a table read.

Star Wars has, once again, changed the way we watch movies.

Come April 5th, you can watch this iconic table read and more (as in the actual movie) in Blu-Rey.

The Trailer is Looking at Me, Ray

We may be heading towards yet another summer of some Old Testament, wrath of God type stuff.

A Ghostbusters reboot is just a few months away.

Was this a good idea?

How do you top Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson?
(Hint: Nobody can)

Will an all-female cast of Ghostbusters hold their own?

One thing is is for sure: The 1984 original and 1989 sequel are absolutely untouchable in the Ghostbusters universe.

The second thing for sure is there’s a new reboot coming July 15th with an all-female cast and they appear ready to add an entertaining chapter to this epic story of green slime, proton packs and refrigerators from hell.

Doesn’t this movie seem perfect for Sandra Bullock and Julia-Louis Dreyfus?

Well, they weren’t called.

However, we do know who was called and it looks like they get into some exciting conflicts with some new ghosts. Above all else, hopefully they remembered that age old proverb:

When somebody asks you if you’re a God (or Goddess), you say yes!
