Casting an Ironclad Legacy
Thankfully, not all college students are clueless PC zombies.
Students at the University of Kent (Canterbury, England) have submitted a proposal to honor the late (and great) Margaret Thatcher with a statue on their campus. If you need a quick refresher, there’s a video for that.
The NBC News article, “Margaret Thatcher Deserves 250-Foot Tall Statue, Backers Say” by Alexander Smith revealed the stunning details.
- 250-Feet Tall
- Made of iron (of course)
- The statue would rest atop a marble pedestal standing 50 feet
- Cost is ~$425 million
Margaret Thatcher was a bold leader of her generation, inspiring men and women in Europe, as well as her American friends across the pond. One of the reasons people admired her, beyond philosophy, was shown in the clip above. Prime Minister Thatcher could hang with anybody at anytime. Her insight, successes and legacy (for conservatism and for women) warrants a monument for the public to admire.
A statue that stands 250 feet tall? The final height may have to be negotiated. Regardless, the students appear to have a strong, determined resolve.
“This is not us having a joke — it is a serious proposal,” 20-year-old Emilio Kyprianou, chairman of the Conservative association and the project’s driving force, told NBC News on Tuesday. “This challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one which we intend to win.”
An iron resolve, if you will.
Happy Monday!
A dream that cannot be interrupted by even the coldest of temperatures…
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is our yearly reminder (though it should be daily) of Dr. King’s seismic call to action to the American people for a better future, including the pursuit of equality favoring character above skin color.
Any writer can attempt to recapture his profound message and legacy, but perhaps it’s best to leave it to the man himself.
Keep dreaming for a better tomorrow.
Happy Monday!
Steven Spielberg turned 69 this past Friday.
Arguably the greatest director of all-time, Spielberg has become a film genre himself. Kids and adults love and admire his visual storytelling, for different and similar reasons. For any person who loves movies, a Spielberg foundation is a necessity. Without experiencing the magic of Spielberg, it’s impossible to experience the true magic of movies.
And that’s why he’s celebrated with such fanfare.
That’s why it’s surprising that some people within the film industry didn’t see his burgeoning genius for granted from the very beginning of his bright, trailblazing career. The father of the summer blockbuster (Jaws) received a few nominations from the Academy for his work with the great white shark.
The video below offers Spielberg’s reaction from back in 1976.
People don’t always remember who won Oscars, but they will remember Steven Spielberg’s golden legacy.
Trust yourself and your vision and the right people will see it the right way.
Happy Birthday Steven Spielberg!
America’s Tip of the Hat to President Lincoln
From a cramped log cabin to the White House, Abraham Lincoln’s personal story in becoming the 16th president of the United States of America is remarkable. His perseverance combined with his vision and sense of humor in a stressful job resulted in a legacy that stands as tall as the man himself.
Exploring the Lincoln Museum in Springfield, Illinois today was insightful and impressive. Here are a few pictures that include said museum, as well as his preserved home nearby.
President Lincoln’s presence was felt all day long, partly due to the historic items from his life and partly due to his selfless and consequential service for his country that provided optimistic light during some of this nation’s darkest years.
Mr. Lincoln was (and still is) an icon of strong American leadership.
