Happy Monday!
This past weekend, Saturday Night Live was in some rare form: it was funny. While that may seem harsh, it’s really not that harsh. However, the triumphant return of Bill Hader and former cast-mate and now co-star in the film, The Skeleton Twins, Kristen Wiig provided genuine laugh-out-loud moments: impressions ranging from Kathie Lee Gifford to a war veteran mastering puppetry and, of course, you know who…
One word, one name: Stefon!
FYI – When watching this clip, notice that when Bill starts to laugh about the mention of a certain individual multiple times (plus a doorman zinger), it’s not rehearsed. Part of the story with Stefon is that the co-creator and co-writer of the character is John Mulaney and he would frequently try to trip his buddy up during the live show with new jokes/changes handed to him as he was walking out to the Weekend Update desk. Some of these changes and jokes, however, come without warning. This was one of those segments.
Need proof?
This was John Mulaney’s twitter post from the weekend: “Sent to Rob Klein last night. Apologies for misspelling Cortese. They didn’t tell Bill about any of it before air.”

Here’s to hanging out with Dan Cortese this week (apparently, the odds are pretty good)!
This Interview Has Everything…
Bill Hader is one of the great comedic actors and impressionists around today (and tomorrow, too). He made millions laugh as a cast member on Saturday Night Live and he continues to do so by lending his voice to animated films like Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, movies like Superbad and The Skeleton Twins and just when he’s being himself during late night interviews. Although, we cannot neglect the brilliant writing from one of Bill’s primary partners while at SNL: John Mulaney. And, on occasion, pranks would be pulled right before the live performance on Weekend Update.
Speaking of which, here is a terrific clip of how Bill’s most revered SNL character was created and, perhaps, the surprise from Mulaney that threw him off his game the most.
FYI: I read about this club and it has everything…including a Spader.
What’s a Spader?
That’s when Spud Web dresses up as Bill Hader.
Happy Throwback Thursday!
When we throw things back on Thursdays, we occasionally need to ensure that we do so to things that will make us laugh now as much as we did, well, back then. Of all the blooper reels I’ve seen, this remains one of the classics. Not only is the 1997 film Liar Liar fantastic, but it’s outtakes with one of the funniest people alive in Jim Carrey is the exit to a highway of pure hilarity and unrestricted creativity.
Ladies and gentlemen, let’s go back to the ’90s for a couple minutes:
Funny Funny!
Making an Early Impression
Kevin Spacey is a model citizen of the Darwinist theory of “survival of the fittest.” Actually, a more appropriate phrase for Mr. Spacey would be “survival of the funniest.” It’s perhaps common knowledge that people who are casual fans of the famed actor are aware of his skillful impressions. His most famous targets are Johnny Carson, Jack Lemmon and Christopher Walken. However, as the video below entertainingly illustrates, it was the impressions he performed off-stage that proved his best.
In so many ways, his old antics are what life is all about.
Who will you be this week?
