A Baskets Case with Emails
It’s Day 2 of the workweek and you may still be stressed-out and relentlessly catching-up on projects or emails. And while expediency can be a massive benefit through the use of technology (particularly mobile tech), it has also proven to be a massive burden in some cases. We need/have to be able to disconnect from time-to-time. For some, however, the connection between expediency and expectation is linear and non-negotiable. In other words, if you can respond in the moment, some people expect you to respond at that exact second. No excuses.
Enter one of the problems with technology’s increasing speed: Lack of time and understanding to think, reflect or acknowledge reality.
Yes, the following is an interview with a comedian. Yes, you may, therefore, be tempted to write-off what he has to say about an isolated societal problem that seems like a reasonable fix in many (obviously not all) situations.
Yes, the interview is also funny.
(Interview is from last year, which is why it’s announced that Baskets airs on Thursdays in the video)
And yes, the no-work-emails after 5 p.m. sounds like a good idea to try to navigate the increasingly blurred line between our work and non-work life, fueled by the pressured expectation of instantaneous communication via technology.
And yes, season 3 of Baskets starring Zach Galifianakis starts airing tonight at 10 p.m. on FX.
Forget a Bow & Put a Bird on Season 8
What’s going on in Portland, Oregon? That’s a common question everyone asks on a Wednesday, right?
I’m actually not sure, other than it’s been raining quite a bit lately. However, in TV’s hilarious mirror-reflection of the famous hipster city, there are mixed feelings these days. And it’s all because of the attached letters “ia” at the end of Portland.
Series Finale Idea: End on a live-shot with the show’s stars Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein surrounded by their Portlandia crew at Portland staple Voodoo Doughnut biting into a delicious new sugary treat inspired by and named after the show.
Season 8 is Portlandia’s final season and will premiere tomorrow night on IFC at 10 p.m.
Happy Monday
Fred Armisen’s reluctant Portlandia driving character = All of us this morning.
Carrie Brownstein’s insistent Portlandia driving character = Our Monday alarm that officially starts the workweek.
Random Thought: I wonder if the name of the guy driving the Yugo was Hugo?
Have a Better Week Than Last Week.
P.S. In just a few short days, those tricky stop sign/right-of-way conundrums will be replaced by the open road of the weekend.
Jerry Being Seinfeld
Kesha = That lingering Monday feeling.
Jerry Seinfeld = All of us.
The quintessential Jerry Seinfeld moment seen above from this past summer confirmed everything we thought (and frankly hoped) the legendary comedian would be like in real life. The title of Jerry’s amazing 2017 Netflix comedy special is Jerry Before Seinfeld, chronicling the stand-ups early days. In Huggate, it’s simply Jerry acting like his character in Seinfeld. In many ways, Seinfeld acts the way we want to in countless social situations. He does and says what he thinks and wants to without worry, which is an incredible skill, believe it or not. Importantly, we should be occasionally reminded to break unwritten social norms.
‘Tis the benefit of being a professional comedian, possessing the strength to reject the absurd, including the stranger hug.
And that’s not nothing folks.
