Superman’s Bright(er) Future
This blog is called, “Jimmy’s Daily Planet.” Therefore, intriguing Superman news naturally takes some precedence.
When fans saw Man of Steel in summer 2013, the tone was darker than past film adaptions of the greatest superhero in history. It was understandable, since it was an origin story rooted in realism and constructed in the same spirit as the successful Batman Begins. The latest Superman movie was co-conceived and co-executive produced by the brainchild of Batman Begins and its two cinematic follow ups: Christopher Nolan and Co. For The Dark Knight trilogy, that bleaker color scheme was a brilliant visual decision. However, Superman is not as emotionally dark and conflicted as Batman. There can be moments of inner-friction, but nothing sustaining.
Superman proudly stands for “truth, justice and the American way.”
The brightness of the character and his surroundings never illuminated to full potential, specifically at the end. This seemed to dispel what appeared to be a clever diluting technique that would have symbolized his “coming into the light” of himself, his super powers and his grand purpose in life.
VideoLab produced a fascinating video analysis comparing the real colors when filming versus the finished altered colors in Man of Steel, a final call made by director Zack Snyder.
When the true Man of Steel sequel (not Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice) comes out in the next couple to few years, it’ll be worth noticing the brightness of the film’s color scheme.
Here’s to hoping that “S” will really pop-off the screen when his journey continues.

Could Carnac the Magnificent have predicted this kind of Monday-through-Friday late night culture?
Johnny Carson is the standard-bearer and the decades that have followed his retirement from The Tonight Show have revealed an incredible public demand for stand-up comics who have the artful skill of conversing with celebrities, athletes and wild animal wranglers in ways that makes for entertaining television. We watch in delight at how today’s leading comics interpret the day’s news, get the exclusive Hollywood scoop, as well as humorously engage in trending activities. After Craig Ferguson’s departure from CBS’s The Late Late Show, the network had some work to do. Competition is fierce from NBC and ABC. This choice was critically important. At least you know they’d never leave something like this up to chance…
Actually, the real Golden Ticket in late night television is being named Jimmy or James (Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, James Corden and James “Jay” Leno).
I better start working on my jokes and interviewing skills…
Where’s My Bike?
A starry dream realized.
Arguably one of the (if not the) best paintings in history is “Starry Night” by Dutch artist Vincent Van Gogh. The swirling images, as told with brush strokes of vivid, other-worldly colors, has mesmerized generations of art lovers and casual viewers alike. This masterpiece has an eternally transcendent quality and that’s why tributes to this famous painting resonate so powerfully.
Someone even dared to take a stroll on this world renowned classic.
“In the Dutch town of Eindhoven, artist Daan Roosegaarde has paid homage to its most famous resident, Vincent Van Gogh, by creating a glowing bike path that relies on solar-powered LED lights and interprets his classic painting Starry Night” (NPR, In a Dutch Town, A Glowing Bike Path Inspired By Van Gogh).
You can close your eyes and imagine what this wild vision would look like, or you can just click on the video below:
You can ride your bike or take a romantic stroll on this glowing masterpiece.

Throwback Thursday Surprise!
The highly-anticipated trailer for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was recently released to the world and it undoubtedly showcases a modern generation of reptilian ninjas that are ready to continue the incredible legacy of its cartoon and live-action descendants.
Thankfully, my nephew will go with me to the movie theater later this year to watch this awesome reboot. What’s perfect is that he is right around the same age I was when I saw the original three live-action movies at the theater.
Even cooler than the trailer is the look on his face when he watches the old movies, the old and new television shows and when he plays with his new turtle toys and my old turtle toys.
Cowabunga indeed!
