An Everest-Sized Movie…Literally

“…Everest  is another beast altogether.”

Make no mistake about, absolutely zero part of Jimmy’s Daily Planet is missing one degree of the freezing cold weather from winter. However, the trailer for the upcoming movie, Everest, seems to create the perfect goosebumps for these warm spring nights. It’s Friday, so sit back and relax with this new movie trailer with an outstanding cast that debuts in September…and then pop right back up from witnessing the life-threatening thrills.

It gives you chills just watching it.

Happy Throwback Thursday!

This is my southernmost Throwback Thursday.

Back on December 31, 2001, my family and I boarded an airplane. You’re probably thinking that we grabbed the shortest of all straws in booking airfare. Surprisingly, you’d be wrong. The special event is called, “Antarctica Flights” by Croydon Travel. They fill a commercial airliner with a couple hundred people, delicious food (not airplane food) and golden champagne for views that are quite nearly out-of-this-world.

As you’ll see in the video below, which is the aforementioned flight just many years later, the sights are breathtaking. We could see the wind blowing on the ice from side-to-side, as well as the penguins waddling around. And the birds eye view gave a grandiose impression of the most difficult continent to visit. This was an unforgettable adventure to a place believed to be reserved for only those very few daring explorers and scientists.

Welcome to the southernmost flight on Earth.

Being aboard this flight across Antarctica, in the company of the first people to usher in the new year, is a remarkably surreal experience.

It’s really special icing on that new year’s cake.

Happy Monday!

No matter how old we are, the sky’s the limit (literally).

That’s awesomeness x 100.

Dating’s Blind Detour

(IBT)

(IBT)

Why isn’t she here yet? What do I say next? Do I kiss her goodnight on the first date?

These timeless conundrums are being thrown out the window and into airplanes and rickshaws with backpacks and (just guessing) a Ford hybrid vehicle of some sort nearby for the craziest blind-date imaginable. The Amazing Race returns tonight for a blind date-themed competition. Half the teams consist of people who are currently dating and half of them volunteered to compete on the Amazing Race not only with someone they’ve never met before, but with someone who they will also be looking to impress under the most stressful situations whilst navigating around the world.

Seems completely crazy, doesn’t it?

Actually, it’s not as insane as one might initially think. First, The Amazing Race is a ridiculously cool show. An incredible time will be had regardless. And second, one of the most awkward aspects of going on a blind-date is figuring out the best way to introduce yourself and determining what to talk about. How about, “Hi! I’m Jimmy. Ready to go on the best adventure of your life?”

On second thought, who needs Phil and a passport for that?

The Amazing Race starts tonight at 9:30 p.m. on CBS for a 90-minute special.
