Yes, yes and yes.
The brand new trailer for the remake of ‘A Star is Born,’ directed by lead actor Bradley Cooper, sparks a few thoughts:
- When does Bradley Cooper’s country album come out?
- Dave Chappelle can do anything.
- The pieces are in place for a great film. Please don’t blow it.
While finely-crafted movie trailers can be deceiving, the initial review of the aforementioned first trailer is that the title should be adjusted to ‘The Stars Are Here.’
The show starts on October 5.
The 50-Year Space Odyssey
You’re about to enjoy a Throwback Thursday with a revamped trailer of 1968s signature science-fiction epic 2001: A Space Odyssey that will be re-released later this year in 2018.

There are no digital tricks, remastered effects, or revisionist edits. This is the unrestored film – that recreates the cinematic event that audiences experienced fifty years ago.”

Lara Croft’s New Craft
With movements nearly as precise as an intricately designed AI robot, Academy Award winner Alicia Vikander’s portrayal of video game favorite Lara Croft looks like quite a bit of adventurous summer fun will be coming soon to your local cinema (that will actually arrive this March). The film’s second trailer, released by Warner Bros. Pictures today, confirms that aforementioned fun.
Narratively, Tomb Raider seems comparable to Batman Begins; the first act in what will likely stretch out into a thrilling trilogy with a lead character who will add more grit and emotion to an already larger-than-life story. Similar to Christian Bale (also an Academy Award winner), Ms. Vikander should add more depth to Lara Croft’s motives and, consequently, her surroundings. By that, I mean the dangerous, life-threatening stakes in the film should be raised beyond a mere visual recreation or addition to the highly-acclaimed video game, which is saying something.
Tomb Raider just may succeed in rebranding a hero of sorts…who is kind of super in her ability to raid tombs, yet not a superhero by definition.
We’ll have to wait and see on March 16th if that analysis (along with the effects in the movie) were, in fact, a practical presumption.
A Real Hollywood Ending
There’s a new movie that takes the idea of practical effects and realism to another cinematic level.
Clint Eastwood is an acclaimed actor and is proving to be, with each new major motion picture under his belt, one of the best directors on the planet. And leave it to the 87-year-old all-American badass to innovate a “young man’s game” in Hollywood by not casting professional actors for events inspired by real-life heroes but by casting the real-life heroes who defined an inspiring event.
Ladies and gentlemen, the first trailer for The 15:17 to Paris (based on a book with the same name) directed by Clint Eastwood was released by Warner Bros. Pictures today.
If The 15:17 to Paris doesn’t qualify as a must-see movie, then I don’t know what does.
Mark down February 9, 2018, on your calendar as movie night. Real-life American heroes (Anthony Sadler, Alek Skarlatos of the Oregon National Guard, and U.S. Air Force Airman First Class Spencer Stone) will be given a Hollywood treatment unlike any we’ve seen before in cinema.
Along with Christopher Nolan’s surreal, yet very realistic and necessarily gritty Dunkirk and Joe Wright’s Darkest Hour led by Gary Oldman’s sublime metamorphosis as Winston Churchill, there’s been no shortage of mainstream films spotlighting incredible people and their acts of courage and bravery.
That’s worth the price of admission and so much more.
