Happy Monday!
This past Friday, this blog featured the teaser trailer for the Tom Cruise-led cast of The Mummy.
Today, this blog features the first full length trailer for The Mummy.
Quick question: Is Tom Cruise’s character the mummy…?
That’s just one of the many things we can ponder as we kick-off a new workweek.
Have a Great Week!
That’s a Wrap (For the Teaser Trailer)
People have an eternal affection for vintage.
Or, in this case, the ancient.
Tom Cruise, Sofia Boutella, Russell Crowe and others have joined forces to bring the world the newest cinematic treatment of ancient Egypt and its magical lore. Deftly titled The Mummy, the first-look (not much of an exaggeration) recently hit the internet.
Looks like Mr. Cruise has yet another mission that seems impossible. The Mummy, depending on the full trailer, may be a movie fans will choose to accept.
Jimmy Found Everybody’s Singing Feeling
Tom Cruise lip-syncing popular songs? That’s a mission that would be impossibly amusing.
The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon continues to prove its towering place in late night television specifically and pop culture more broadly in our social media-driven, nostalgia-loving (’90s favorites) society. Entertainment is king and Jimmy Fallon is one of its princes. Well, a jester to be more precise. Jimmy Fallon is a master at his craft with celebrity and musical impressions, improvisational banter with his comedic partner Steve Higgins and YouTube-worthy sketches.
And it’s all with a definitively positive attitude. Everyone has a good time, including the audience.
Business as usual (risky and hilarious) in Studio 6B.
Cinco de Voices
What do Seth MacFarlane, Emily Blunt and Kermit the Frog have in common?
They all hear funny voices.
While I can imitate some characters for the sake of drama or comedy, Seth MacFarlane constantly proves that performing impersonations is a remarkable skill. To successfully pull off a great impression, you have to fully inhabit another person or character’s being, including their accent, temperament and signature reactions. Most impressively, the best imitators are able to switch on-and-off like a light switch from acting like themselves to being somebody completely different with stunning accuracy.
As a fan and student of improv and acting, the following video of impressions is entertaining and educational. It features one of the modern masters at work:
Impersonations definitely require a very specific set of skills.
