You Can’t Beat It

Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson are simply comedy gold.

The Meet the Parents films, Night at the Museum movies, Starsky and Hutch and The Royal Tenenbaums are just a few of their acclaimed collaborations. Their bromance on the silver screen is infectious in the best ways, with their character portrayals best described as engaging, outrageous and always unforgettable. Each of us imagines we are either Stiller or Wilson, or a little of both.

In the case of the dance-off in their 2001 cult classic Zoolander, well, there are no words…

Thankfully, Zoolander 2 premieres in theaters on February 12, 2016.

Happy Throwback Thursday!

Déjà Vu’s Comforting Goal

Iceland 1 – Netherlands nil.

When will this nightmare end?

The shocking struggles of the Oranje, following a third place finish at last year’s World Cup with a strikingly similar squad, leaves fans of this small, yet immensely talented soccer nation in a sustained state of disbelief. With just three games remaining in the qualifying stage of the UEFA Euro 2016, the Dutch are in third place with 10 points, 6 shy of the Czech Republic and 8 short of football’s current Cinderella: Iceland.

Math is increasingly becoming the 12th eligible player against the Netherlands.

In Danny Blind’s first game as the new Dutch manager, he faced an uphill battle with an injury to his new captain Arjen Robben and a red card from defender Bruno Martins Indi in the first half and a penalty for Iceland minutes into the second half. It’s difficult to render a legitimate verdict against Blind at this point. He deserves time and a healthy roster to make a remarkable (and necessary) comeback for his home country in order to plan the coveted business trip to France for UEFA Euro 2016.

However, not substituting in Robin van Persie in the second half when they needed a goal? That’s one question that Mr. Blind needs to answer.

As a loyal Dutch fan for many, many years now, the Netherlands’ second group loss to Iceland was unthinkable. They have the talent, a new coach’s perspective and home filed advantage. Surely, a win was coming.

Nope.

It was a little more than year ago when the Dutch shocked Spain and the world in the best way imaginable. Spain’s reign at the top of world soccer was officially over and they knew it. Here’s a much-needed throwback this Thursday to the 2014 World Cup’s thrilling opening match.

I still believe: Hup Holland Hup.

Vespa’s Comeback

Somehow, someway, society “officially” decided that we should dedicate an entire day to remembering past greatness. “Throwback Thursday” gives us pause to reflect on life’s highlights.

Speaking of which, on this day back in 1953, the classic Roman Holiday premiered in theaters. The beautifully romantic tour de love and laughter introduced the world, in center stage fashion, to the stunningly beautiful, adorably quirky and amazingly graceful Audrey Hepburn.

Perfection.

I really need to travel to Rome and make my own holiday.

Happy Boomerang Thursday!

The initial “throw” was great, now time will tell if its return “back” to the cinema will meet expectations.

With its already existent universe (technically, its land and world), Disney is set to be one of the biggest winners of the year with the upcoming release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens this December. And remaining in the spirit of popular franchises and movies being rebooted, Disney just revealed the latest surprise in their magical portfolio at the D23 Expo 2015.

Will this adaption match the original from 1977? Realistically, no. But the hope is that it will be a fun and worthy second chapter in the movie’s warm, captivating story.

It’s fair to presume that if this asset gets out of containment, it will bring only imaginative happiness to the characters and audience alike.
