Television’s Newest Attraction
Put up this wall!
While President Reagan was absolutely right to boldly declare the Berlin Wall be torn down on June 12, 1987, LG was right to present the world with an inventive wall to build of their own a couple days ago in Seoul, South Korea nearly 28 yeas later in 2015.
LG Display, which is a subsidiary of the tech giant LG, recently revealed a product that will surely become standard in future homes: a wallpaper television. And it’s precisely what it sounds like. Measuring less than a millimeter in screen thickness, this prototype wallpaper TV virtually blends right onto the wall where you hang it. Using a magnetic pad of equal size (55-inches), the shockingly light 4-pound television adds unprecedented versatility to television watching and entertainment ventures.
The OLED quality colorfully defines this spectacular innovation.

Whether speaking about this type of invention with friends and family or writing on Jimmy’s Daily Planet in the past few years about how entire walls in homes will someday (in the not so completely distant future) be screens that will be conducive to watching television, playing video games, displaying art portraits, being cloud-friendly, a home control center, etc., this is a genuinely exciting moment. Forget about the astronomical price this TV would demand right now because most innovations are too costly to the consumer, until they’re not.
Now the actual business element of LG Display will begin with a dialogue with the design team. The next challenge is offering this as an affordable product to the public in the next several years. LG is experienced with producing and selling high-quality televisions and other tech goods, so determining the pricing, manufacturing, testing and scaling should not constitute a Herculean task.
The possibilities this technology presents as a television are thrilling, but the imaginative uses in smaller and vastly larger form, as a teaching tool, a business tool and so forth are just as exhilarating. At this point, the functionality for this technology is limitless and it will very likely change television forever when it’s perfected in LG’s labs and finally available to consumers for purchase.
Going from scratch and sniff stickers to peel and stick high-definition televisions…

Throwback Thursday’s Tunnel Trip
Today, this blog will throw it all the way back to this past Tuesday’s news about a key departure from Blink-182 (He Said, They Said). Even though there is a replacement for Tom DeLonge in the short-term, the future of this famed band is still unknown. Ultimately, it seems like a primary battle for its future will rest in the hands of lawyers. Who will gain the rights to their songs? Who will have the right to play them?
As this inevitable mess gets sorted out behind-the-scenes, one truth from this still cloudy “break-up” is that the music world has benefited from Blink-182 and Angels and Airwaves. In an ideal world, both bands would co-exist in perfect creative harmony. Obviously, that’s been impossible throughout Angels and Airwaves’ path to its recently released fifth album with sporadic Blink-182 records and concerts in-between. And despite Tom’s reported pattern of passive aggressive withdrawal from Mark and Travis over the years, fans cannot help but enjoy that “other band’s” final product. The debut of their music video for “Tunnels” (from “The Dream Walker” album) seen below just so happened to debut yesterday, in the midst of the bands’ drama.
AVA (Angels and Airwaves) has always been original, futuristic, moving and wonderfully cinematic in its vocal and visual storytelling. And interestingly, the first stanza of “Tunnels” reads as follows:
I am still without devotion
Because we’re all asleep at the wheel
Asleep and so surrounded by what we feel
A bad dream…
While many of their other songs are aspirational and love-centric, the timing of a long-held feud going public and this particular music video release is fascinating to say the least. It should not be immediately presumed that this was planned, but this occurrence should also not be ignored in its potential reference to feelings (specific or vague) towards an ongoing struggle that was splashed across music’s front page this week.
(UPDATE: Read that Tom wrote this song about his father passing away). Still, the above stanza seems relevant for what’s going on with him right now…
Will Mark, Travis and Tom see the big picture going forward?
In any event, Tom seems pretty content with his vision for the future…his tunnel vision to be more precise.
America’s Greatest Goal
Only a few days removed from the wonderful conclusion to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and it’s somewhat strange to comprehend just how glorious that one month-long tournament was and is when it’s playing out. For several weeks, fans and casual sports fans alike come together to cheer for their respective nations, as well as their favorite players and teams they admire from afar. Patriotism is on full-display with a seemingly incomparable pride in one’s country. Flags are waved and worn, colors are as bright as the faces of the goal scorers and the energy around the world for this unique sporting event is palpable.
So, where do we go from here?
That is one of the critical questions to ponder, especially when considering the optimism of people from all over the world during the biggest tournament of the world’s most popular sport. Why do we need to keep waiting for events like the World Cup to witness so many of the great things and relentless, upbeat spirits of men, women and children from all over the country and the globe? The intensity of this past World Cup (for example) seemed to even trump the passion of the 4th of July when compared to watching the U.S. matches this year.
How can we bottle this exuberance to endure beyond one single day or month?
If and how this question can be answered may hold the key to (finally) rejuvenate the United States to its necessary, new level of hope for the future.
One can dream.
Thankfully, this is the perfect place to do just that while wearing red, white and blue.
