Wanting Clark Kent’s (Super) Character

Coldplay’s musical prowess is an imaginative playground with many leaps and (fortunately) no bounds.

Collaborating with The Chainsmokers (because when you listen to their songs, you’re addicted), the British quartet formally known as Coldplay provided a wonderful gift to its listeners today. And, quite honestly, these two musical groups created a visual gift by way of a lyrical video that will spark happy memories of dreaming, love, superheroes and overall awe at the wonder of life past, present and future. A song with a positive, wishful ambition is simply refreshing.

One could say that this new lyrical video that debuted today is Sprite-level refreshing.

Ladies and gentlemen, Coldplay and The Chainsmokers present “Something Just Like This.”

We all need something just like this in our life.

“Chuck” B. Berry Good

90 is the new 50?

Brush away the AARP card, biting into soft food and staring out the window at birds from dusk until dawn. Chuck Berry, the trailblazing rocker behind “Johnny B. Goode” and many other hits, isn’t celebrating his 90th birthday (which is today, October 18th) sitting down. It looks like Mr. Berry still has a few fresh beats in his head that will keep him (and us) rockin’ and rollin’ well into the new year.

Berry’s new album –  titled “Chuck” – will arrive in 2017 via Dualtone Records. His last album of original music was 1979’s “Rock It.” According to a press release, “Chuck” consists of songs written by Berry and was recorded in studios around his hometown of St. Louis, Missouri.

Thanks to my dad and his brother, I had the unforgettable chance to see experience Chuck Berry play his greatest hits in a tiny club in St. Louis, Missouri more than a decade ago. The true magic of that evening was that Mr. Berry, despite his towering age, did THE “Duck Walk” during his priceless performance of “Johnny B. Goode.” Everyone in the room was mesmerized with a smile as wide as the Gateway Arch. Knowing that the man himself is still musically inspired on his 90th birthday for a forthcoming album should bring a smile to everyone’s face.

A Dream of Mine: I think if somebody could arrange for Michael J. Fox to recreate that scene (as best as he can and is able) on the Academy Awards, in some form, to the Back to the Future mode/clothing/setting/high school kids dancing and have Chuck Berry “Duck Walk” on stage to sing with Marty McFly halfway through would be, arguably, the greatest moment in pop culture history. Plus, they would need to make sure to have that phone call from Marvin Berry before Chuck struts out onto the stage.

For now, here’s something that will get everybody to stand up and do their very own “Duck Walk.”

Happy 90th Birthday Chuck Berry!

Back When Romeo & Juliet Were Kids

Is there such a thing as an end of summer song?

Music man Ryan Tedder is back with another hit single, this time with his band OneRepublic. The group from Colorado Springs, Colorado filmed and produced a music video that is set in what appears to be Mexico City’s best impression of Verona, Italy. The romantic thrill of Romeo & Juliet is an interesting choice for the song “Kids.” On the one hand, this storytelling choice fits and on the other hand, the decision to highlight young love seems a bit off for the lyrics.

And yet, the brand new music video and song are great in equal measure.

What do you think of the music video?

What I know is that I want to visit that movie-like alleyway for a late night dinner with a special girl, followed by a rocking concert.

Well played, OneRepublic, well played.

Country Time in the Summertime

Kenny Chesney and summertime go together like, well, Kenny Chesney’s 2005 single, “Summertime.”

The aforementioned country singer recently released a new song titled, “Setting the World on Fire.” The title, even with the soothing and comfortably rising tempo, was not the best turn of phrase for what’s happening in the world today. Maybe that’s why Kenny Chesney added a bright pink flavor to the mix.

Technically, he added singer P!nk for a nice country duet.

Kenny Chesney sure knows what to say for that special time in the summer.
