Wanting Clark Kent’s (Super) Character

Coldplay’s musical prowess is an imaginative playground with many leaps and (fortunately) no bounds.

Collaborating with The Chainsmokers (because when you listen to their songs, you’re addicted), the British quartet formally known as Coldplay provided a wonderful gift to its listeners today. And, quite honestly, these two musical groups created a visual gift by way of a lyrical video that will spark happy memories of dreaming, love, superheroes and overall awe at the wonder of life past, present and future. A song with a positive, wishful ambition is simply refreshing.

One could say that this new lyrical video that debuted today is Sprite-level refreshing.

Ladies and gentlemen, Coldplay and The Chainsmokers present “Something Just Like This.”

We all need something just like this in our life.

Keep This Song in Your Back Pocket

If only there was a device that could enable a bunch of your favorite songs to be placed in your back pocket?

Somehow, someway, Steve Jobs will forever be present in our minds…front or back.

The 2015 film Steve Jobs, directed by Danny Boyle, was a fascinating cinematic exercise. Put simply, Aaron Sorkin adapted a screenplay from the leading book about Steve Jobs with a title of the same name by Walter Isaacson into three scenes. That was it. And the three scenes took place before a major product launch by the Apple co-founder in a behind-the-scenes kind of fashion with rapid fire conversations.

Interestingly, there were many new truthful revelations (some minor, some surprising and one absolutely mind-blowing) that occurred before the conductor took the stage in front of the spotlight to introduce his NeXT innovation.

In that same spirit, let’s take a moment this Tuesday to challenge ourselves to think different. Not to think differently, which is grammatically correct. But to “think different” as Steve Jobs charged we do (which actually is thinking differently, when you think about it). There is a song in the film that feels like the only music Steve Jobs would have listened to before a life-altering idea that wasn’t by Bob Dylan. Whether you work in an office and are allowed to listen to music (perhaps with headphones) or if you choose to listen to this song before or after work, please give the following song a try.

Who knows what inspiration this musical wonder (“Grew Up At Midnight” by The Maccabees) may spark?

Watching the movie Steve Jobs in the theater and again just recently, the one thing that’s crystal clear is that Steve Jobs was a masterfully innovative storyteller above all else. Say what you want about him (good or bad), but he changed the world.

And that is insanely great.

Float Like a Butterfly and…What Like a Bee?

TGIF!

With Friday evening upon us, that means it’s time to hit the town and go out to a nice restaurant with your special someone. The workweek is over. Yes, we can all take a unified breath of relief. Now, the fun of Super Bowl weekend can begin. And what better way to get into the spirit of Friday night and the weekend than a surprise singer who happens to pass by your table with the voice of an angel?

Nothing. There’s nothing better.

But be aware that some of these singers, with their guitars and restaurant theme-appropriate costumes, can offer a performance that really stings all the senses.

All I can say is that needs to be a real restaurant.

Have a Great Weekend.

Hugh’s Glass Was Famously Half Full

With the weather still cold (well, it is winter after all) and snow flakes falling here and there, one sound keeps floating to the front of my mind.

Along with an image of Leonardo DiCaprio.

Let me explain.

The Revenant, which premiered in theaters back in late 2015, took audiences on an epic tale of a remarkable true story of Hugh Glass (played by Mr. DiCaprio) who is left for dead in 1823, yet fights for his life in the freezing, punishing conditions of the wilderness of the American west. Equipped with essentially nothing but his know-how and relentless grit, the movie spotlights the wonder of nature, as well as the crutch and handicap of solitude.

For some reason, the short theme music from The Revenant remains a distinctly mysterious and intriguing orchestral piece. As such, the music provides a rare few minutes to pause from bracing with the chilly weather and our lives to simply reflect. On what, exactly? That’s purely your call. However, we occasionally need time to take a break (and then break off a piece of a Kit Kat bar) to allow things to settle in and just be for a few moments.

Revenant is defined as, “a person who has returned, especially supposedly from the dead.” Maybe the music above has allowed you to return (or figure out the next step) from a dead end or deep struggle you’ve been having.

Or, perhaps the music and image from the video is a reminder to check how days it is until spring arrives.

Either way, fair enough.
