That’s One Way to Tailor Suits
Welcome to “Wait, What!? Wednesday.”
This a Jimmy’s Daily Planet special.
This blog already celebrates the first day of the workweek with “Happy Monday!” Then, on occasion, there’s “Throwback Thursday” and “Flashback Friday.” The inspiration behind “Wait, What!? Wednesday” wasn’t to write a paragraph with the most quotation marks, but to add a random midweek surprise. The first name that came to mind was magician extraordinaire David Blaine.
You didn’t see that coming, but he probably did.
Magic has always been difficult to fully believe because strategically-placed distractions, spacial manipulation and slight, yet masterful illusions have been revealed to the public throughout the years. Some of these tricks are for beginners at birthday parties, while a couple elaborate stunts have been given the Wizard of Oz treatment. Even so, most magic tricks cannot logically be explained by even the most perceptive eye.
This is where we cycle back to David Blaine. Arguably, Mr. Blaine’s most famous trick is levitating in mid-air right in front of people on a public street. Pure insanity. Interestingly, the video clip below features the magician embracing the laws of gravity instead of defying them.
Seeing that card trick almost made my heart skip a beat.
Bust a Move
Will the new Ghostbusters movie honor the original by more than simply name only?
That is the question and a heated one at that.
July 15th is the movie theater release date, so there’s still plenty of time for debate and prognostication. For now, fans of the Ghostbusters can unite together to sing and dance to one of the single greatest (if not the greatest) original pop songs for a major motion picture.

2015 Will Always Be The Future

The company teased new details about the hoverboard last week, like better battery life, USB connectivity, stronger hover engines, and a safety kill switch…The new, skateboarder-friendly design is thanks to none other than Tony Hawk, who apparently had some “frank input” on the hoverboard’s design after riding the first version last year.

Arx Pax and Lexus each designed and manufactured their 1st generation hoverboards this year. Yesterday/Back to the Future Day, the former debuted its second generation hoverboard with help from its skating consultant Tony Hawk. This dream isn’t going away and that’s a reassuring revelation for the future of mankind. After watching a short .gif video of Hawk riding the new prototype, the steering looks improved. However, the desired free-range motion without the use of magnets is going to require the mind of a real-life Doc Brown. Plus, the design is not as sleek and cool as we want, but we are still one step closer to the bright future we all envision for ourselves.
Earning a front page story on USA Today is still the goal.

Nike just did it!
How do we get a pair of the Power-Lace Nike Air Mags? So far, Nike has revealed there will be a limited-release in the Spring of 2016 and it will replicate the auction format from 2011 in which all the proceeds will benefit the Michael J. Fox Foundation. Hopefully, these shoes from 2015’s future (literally!) will help extinguish Parkinson’s Disease in the post-2015 future.
Michael/Marty: The shoes are amazingly cool, but a world without Parkinson’s Disease is the future we want first and foremost.
Insanity’s Checkered Life
There are a billion reasons to love and hate chess.
Pawn Sacrifice seeks to highlight justifications for both ends of that spectrum.
Tobey Maguire (Bobby Fischer) escaped into the legendary chess player for a movie he said was 10-years in the making. For most people (including myself), Bobby Fischer is the one name we know in the chess universe. Most notably, this stems from a film in which a 7-year old boy from a middle-class family in New York City found himself inadvertently “searching” to channel Fischer’s world-renowned skill in the 1993 classic, Searching for Bobby Fischer.
In a recent interview, Tobey Maguire revealed just how difficult chess is to play, let alone succeed against the best. The mental toll, if pushed to the highest levels, is enough to drive any sane person mad. This is one of the driving forces in Pawn Sacrifice, which is based on a true story. However, the psychological illness caused by the strenuous nature of chess didn’t stop Maguire from relishing in the blind luck mastery of today’s chess champion.
That’s insane.
Whether you have to drive diagonally across town, north and then west or straight up the road, seeing Pawn Sacrifice this weekend seems like a worthwhile move.
