Happy Monday
The first movie I watched (well, re-watched) in 2017 was Stars Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope.
Fitting.
Movie soundtracks are a source of great intrigue, analysis and enjoyment on Jimmy’s Daily Planet. Instrumentals, if done correctly, are genuine works of art. A masterpiece of this variety that’s written and performed for a major motion picture evokes powerful emotions in our conscious and subconscious, all the while inspiring and accompanying unforgettable moments of cinematic storytelling that have the very capability to change how we view the real world around us.
One such instrumental is featured in the intergalactic blockbuster Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens. Musical genius John Williams composed a wonderful score for The Force Awakens, including the gem that can be heard below with the single click of your computer mouse.
2017: How will you awaken your force this year?
Have a Better Week than Last Week.
Our Heads Should Be Full of Dreams
Charlie Chaplin established himself as an actor during the Silent Film Era of the early 20th century, yet his speech from The Great Dictator (1940) should be anything but silenced.
Coldplay had the terrific insight to insert the aforementioned Chaplin speech over the opening minute sequence of the “A Head Full of Dreams” music video. While the music video premiered back in August (featured in a blog), that speech continues to overwhelm in its wisdom and inspiring charge.
In an election season covered by the media (“journalism”) on a relentless basis, we have certainly heard it all from all sides, haven’t we? Interestingly, the speech from The Great Dictator (irony at its highest when you hear the speech) provide us the only things we haven’t heard during this presidential election:
An inspirational, tactful vision for a bright future for everyone.
It may take a fantastical adventure for Mr. Chaplin’s words to reach today’s influential leaders, but it’s worth a shot. Embracing the ingenuity, resolve and promise of the people instead of centralizing control to the powerful few…
Imagine that.
Pushing Towards that Whopper of a Dream
Viktor Navorski’s preference for Burger King aside, his passion for working hard for what he wants makes for a perfect Throwback Thursday.
The Terminal was a 2004 Steven Spielberg-Tom Hanks collaboration that cleverly told the story of a man from a war-torn nation stranded in New York’s JFK terminal desperate to visit the United States. Bustling during the day and eerily lonely at night, the JFK terminal proved an opportunity and a prison for Viktor. He cannot leave the terminal and enter the United States because of his status as the man without a country. In what’s revealed as his charming character trait, Viktor befriends the blue-collar workers of the airport and evolves from a peculiar foreign nuisance into an inspirational tour de force.
No matter what your goals and dreams are for today and tomorrow, we should all embrace the spirited resolve of Viktor Navorski.
Only Steven Spielberg could’ve framed and transformed a mundane activity into an endearing exercise of the human spirit.
Happy Throwback Thursday!
Happy Monday!
“We’ve always defined ourselves by the ability to overcome the impossible.”
Not only did this teaser trailer solidify all my hopes for Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar back in late 2013, but this 2-minute video serves as inspiration with a side of chills for every occasion.
Every occasion, including a rainy Monday.
Go ahead, watch it again…and again.
Have an Awe-Inspired Week!
