A Lift Back in Time
Sequels, historically, have a mixed record. How about a non-sequel sequel?
The 2011 film Crazy, Stupid, Love starring Ryan Gosling, Steve Carell, Emma Stone and Julianne Moore is a wonderful cinematic achievement. Akin to the Ocean’s Eleven trilogy, the casting, writing and acting was pitch-perfect and clever throughout with fun twists and fantastic settings we wish we could hang-out in on the weekend or on vacation.
Great escapism.
Speaking of escapism…
Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone’s chemistry in Crazy, Stupid, Love is clearly evident. Remember the Dirty Dancing-inspired scene with the famed lift? It’s fitting the two would make a movie that expands their burgeoning romance from that dynamite move.
Despite not being their first reunion on film (Gangster Squad in 2013), the brand new teaser trailer for La La Land is, in terms of tonality, a similar feel-good spirit for the actor and actress as their beloved roles as Jacob Palmer and Hannah. The classical, dreamy aura reminds us of the Golden Age of Hollywood, inviting us into a world that serves as confirmation for why we enjoy movie magic and how this magic is created.
This film is unapologetic in celebrating Hollywood’s bright, shining spotlight elevated on and for the stage of suspended belief.
La La Land doesn’t look crazy or stupid, but full of love.
Can’t Stop the Weekend!
Justin Timberlake has used his musical experience and 20/20 vision to create the presumptive summer hit of 2016.
The Renaissance Man from Memphis is taking a slight break from choreographed dancing and is hoping his friends and fans will take over and bust a move. Released some 10 hours ago in an attempt to win the weekend, “CAN’T STOP THE FEELING!” (with the cast of DreamWorks Animation’s Trolls) is infectiously fun.
“So just dance, dance, dance, come on…”
Put on your Nike’s and just do it!
You Can’t Beat It
Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson are simply comedy gold.
The Meet the Parents films, Night at the Museum movies, Starsky and Hutch and The Royal Tenenbaums are just a few of their acclaimed collaborations. Their bromance on the silver screen is infectious in the best ways, with their character portrayals best described as engaging, outrageous and always unforgettable. Each of us imagines we are either Stiller or Wilson, or a little of both.
In the case of the dance-off in their 2001 cult classic Zoolander, well, there are no words…
Thankfully, Zoolander 2 premieres in theaters on February 12, 2016.
Happy Throwback Thursday!
Happy Monday!
Carly Rae Jepsen had an incredible challenge to follow up her 2012 summer smash hit, “Call Me Maybe.” After collaborating with Owl City for a good time, the pressure mounted for her next equally sensational single. Even though the following music video debuted a couple months ago, it can take a little time for a song to catch on.
And it has.
It’s the impossibly cute Carly Rae Jespen (I’ll call you, maybe?) and Hollywood’s Leading Man: Mr. Tom Hanks.
Nearly 42 million views so far…not bad.
Have a Really, Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Good Week!
