The Kick Seen (and Analyzed) Around the World

With an added chill in the air (in Ohio, anyways), the phrase “it’s football season” takes on multiple meanings. This sentiment applies to both American and European/global football (soccer). By accident, while perusing the Apple store website, a familiar circular object appeared before my surprised eyes. Intrigued, I clicked on the picture to learn more. Despite a shocking price tag ($299.95), this technology is sure to gain serious intrigue by those at elite clubs with world-class skill.

In the purest sense, Adidas has given the world the next-generation soccer ball:

The beautiful game may now require tech support…

The Day the World Changed Forever

9/11

It’s a surreal sensation that I can perfectly retrace my steps beginning with hearing the shocking news from a classmate passing by me near the doors of the second floor of my high school’s library. He said a plane had hit one of the World Trade Center towers. Confused, I continued to my math class around the corner, walked in and looked up at the television screen in the top left corner like everybody else as I made my way to my seat. There was a giant fiery and smoky hole in one of the towers. Black smoke was billowing out. We had no idea what was going on. I assumed it was a small plane whose pilot lost control. An accident for sure. But as I settled in for a few more moments, I realized the hole was far too large for such a small plane.

It started to register this was no accident.

September 11, 2001 is a day in which those who lived through it will remember forever. It was a tragedy fueled by panic and fear, as well as the pressing questions of why, how, what and who? However, it was also a day that showed us what true heroism looked like with police officers, firefighters, emergency personnel and everyday citizens helping each other through the debris of a literal hell on earth situation that September morning in New York City, Washington, D.C. and aboard a plane that crashed in Pennsylvania and during the dark days that followed.

There aren’t enough words to properly describe and remember the events of September 11th that occurred thirteen years ago. But two words continue to represent an overarching sentiment for us all, on this day, 9/11:

Never Forget.

The Silent Defense

“We still fear what we don’t know”
–The Killers (band)

Two unfortunate realities in the modern era are increased hiding places from experiences that are difficult and the wavering definition of logic. It’s becoming increasingly apparent that logic is only logical until it’s not. This confusion surrounding logic only affects most all of our decisions, so no big deal, right?

Are things still going well? Of course, because of A, B and C. But then why did this occur or not get a response? Everything seemed to be on the same path, just like past events…What just happened? Why? And, undoubtedly, the worst sound of all: enduring, completely mysterious silence.

Talk about one hell of an apparently fluid concept to attempt to conquer and understand.

When these two forces collide, the reaction is something quite remarkable. What’s fashioned is a double-edged sword, sharpened for the causes of convenience and defense. Adding to the dynamism of this creation is its ambiguity of action. For those who voluntarily select (key phrase here) such an object to use, it may first appear as the attractive recourse. Not only easier, but it’s less stressful for the user. In the eyes of many these days, that’s the primary criteria. What’s the most facile choice for me? Distance, in a world of closeness and opinions as told through constant communication channels, is a strange phenomenon. One day (or one minute), we can be intimately connected with someone. Then, the next day or week, this same passageway can be cut-off without explanation like scissors to a phone cord.

A devastating disconnect.

As frequently and creatively as we communicate and profess to be connected to each other like never before, this truth can often transpire into levels of fiction because of the convenience these popular mediums enable. Living with information all around us, we aren’t receiving anywhere close to the complete truth in too many cases when knowing more is desired and needed. Instead, we’re living amongst scattered pieces without a comprehensive understanding. There are voids of vital details that should be revealed, but it’s been unilaterally decided by one party to remain hidden and untold.

Why?

Because that’s what swords do, they shred any chance at the truth until people give up and retreat.

Apple: The Next Generation

iPhone 6

iPhone 6 Plus

Apple Pay

Apple Watch

Ladies and gentlemen, for the first time in what has felt like an eternity, Apple Inc. has begun to recapture some of the magic surrounding its innovative products since the tragic passing of its iconic and visionary co-founder Steve Jobs three years ago. Is Apple officially back? Well, no, because you can’t bring Steve Jobs back. However, the next generation of Apple Inc. (see what I did there) appears to be presenting its latest gadgets for us to awe at with great joy today from the Flint Center in Cupertino, California.

The new products, plus a free album from U2, and it’s safe to conclude this was a truly amazing iAmazing day for Apple.

Two quick observations: In an effort to progress beyond the solitary charisma of the late Steve Jobs and his excellent presenting skills, Apple Inc. has appeared to have assigned divisional heads to explain each of its major product reveals. Part of the next generation leadership of the company I’m hypothesizing. And that the iPhone 6 Plus is getting closer to the size of the Zack Morris brick phone. Just something to contemplate…

To think (again, see what I did there), this iPhone craze all started with an announcement seven years ago…

Beyond the “fresh out of the box” experience, will these products sell? Will they frame and become the future of personal technology?

While these answers are unknown, I think the world is ready to take a fresh, delicious bite out of Apple today.
