The Slide of Your Life

If you’re afraid of heights…how do I put this?

If a skyscraper of more than 70 stories doesn’t evoke a sense of wonder at being so high in the sky, a clear glass slide on the outside of said building should certainly do the trick.

Along with some possible vertigo.

Give the property owners of the U.S. Bank Tower some credit: They are gutsy and potential branding geniuses.

Starting in June, the U.S. Bank Tower will become a destination for locals and tourists alike as long as the initial reviews are positive (and safe). Local news outlets and social media will inevitably reinvigorate the buzz from today’s news and, if the thrill of gliding down a transparent slide is like a scene from Mission Impossible, this slide will become a unique L.A. experience.

More specifically: A unique U.S. Bank experience.

And experience is the optimum word: Return on Experience (ROE). If all goes well, U.S. Bank could very well become synonymous with an exciting, heart-pounding attraction.

Or, in other words, the complete opposite of banking.

Their brand would branch out beyond their serious-minded industry. U.S. Bank begins to become something more than just finance management. This company becomes an engaging story to the public.

With any good story, people always want to know what’s coming next…

P.S. $8 for a single ride, U.S. Bank? There’s a risk in this positive story morphing into a scheme of new hidden fees. Lower the price and donate proceeds to a local charity. That will get Millennials and social media on your side.

Mastering the Hustle

Chess is a game that can drive anybody crazy.

Chess is also a game that reveals crazy cool moments.

One of the best scenes in Searching for Bobby Fischer was when young Josh returned to the park with his mom to reunite with street hustler Vinnie. In this moment, Josh rediscovered his passion of playing fast and playing for fun.

Speed chess does that because it forces you to react and not overthink the labyrinth of complexities on the checkered board. You prepare as best you can, go out and give it your best shot.

And it’s a genuine thrill to witness it, especially when a chess grandmaster casually sits down for a game with someone running his mouth a tad too much.

This video was recorded and posted by chess grandmaster Maurice Ashley. Here’s his video description:

“I was schooled by the best hustlers back in the day! This was actually in Washington Square Park where the late great Vinnie Livermore used to beat my ass at that same table!”

Check that out, mate.

Is The Force Strong in This One?

Talk about the ultimate tease.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens was a record-breaking Goliath at the box office and an instant fan favorite. The long-awaited epic return to an epic saga hit all the major notes in a new, yet nostalgic fashion. Appropriately, the next/final two episodes in the new trilogy are in full blaster production mode.

Episode VIII started filming yesterday. That would be Day 1. The very first step towards another awesome Star Wars movie slated for release in December…of next year…in 2017.

Why the emphasis on the fact that Episode VIII won’t arrive in theaters until the end of 2017? Because the marketing strategy for studios engaging with fans for a highly-anticipated blockbuster just flew into another galaxy. Rian Johnson (the director) and Co. have sped past the teaser promotion barrier of one year out from a film’s premiere to a time-frame of more than 20 months from the release date.

SPOILER ALERT: The following groundbreaking teaser announcement includes a major spoiler/scene from The Force Awakens.

Leave it to Star Wars to promote a movie to its fans after the first day of filming.

This is the teaser 6+ million people have been looking for…

A Wondrous Capstone

A screen saver doesn’t always do the trick.

A Friday night and impending weekend begs for something special and memorable to transpire. Much like the third act of a movie or play, the end of the workweek simply demands an unforgettable, redeeming twist. The moment can be small or big.

Or really big. As in Great Pyramid big.

With all the violent and political chaos in recent years, it’s kind of funny that it took a daring German trespasser to remind the world of the transcendent energy of Cairo, Egypt.

The view is pretty great.
