The Real Elvis imPERSONAtor
Posted by jimmy11lentz
“The King” left the building (so to speak) many moons ago, but we’re getting an opportunity to really see him in a brand new revealing light.
Elvis Presley had (has) a fan-culture akin to the Beatles in many respects. He was an ordinary boy who became a man that could sing, who then not-so-quietly evolved into a musical and performing icon unlike most anybody in recent memory. The latter is not necessarily concerning the pure talent-side of things, as there have been (and there currently are) several living legends across music’s diverse spectrum. However, there is a relentlessly magnetic fandom that, from the outside, appears equally dedicated and passionate about Mr. Presley’s many offerings more than 40 years after his death.
He was (is) a rare force.
This rock n’ roll star delivered a crowd-pleasing electricity every time he hit any kind of stage (music, TV, and movie). The hope is the forthcoming two-part HBO documentary Elvis Presley: The Searcher will shine a spotlight on “the King” that might give us hints as to his illustrious, undying legacy.
And why his moves still move people to this day.
P.S. At least we know who taught him those signature dance moves…

There Are No Words / A Real Star’s Banner Anthem
Posted by jimmy11lentz
That Fergalicious take on the “Star-Spangled Banner” will not be lifted into the rafters of any basketball arena.
“The Star-Spangled Banner” is not an ordinary song. It’s much, much more. And messing up our beloved national anthem by taking the wrong (creative) approach will raise more than just eyebrows. In reflecting on Fergie’s terrible, cringe-worthy rendition of the national anthem before the NBA All-Star game this past Sunday, Slash came to mind for his clever and signature take on the very same national anthem a few years back.
But for very different reasons, as you’ll see and hear.
(Click the video below. It will play!)
For Slash, no words were necessary.
And yet, he said everything with an incredible instrumental that had Americans cheering on his symbolic tip of the hat to the song’s writer Francis Scott Key.
P.S. A Fun Fact: I am, as surreal as it reads, related to the aforementioned Francis Scott Key.
Okay, I’ll give this a shot:
My dad’s uncle (John Lentz) was married to Frances, whose grandfather’s brother was the grandfather of Francis Scott Key.

Driving Mister Foo Fighters
Posted by jimmy11lentz
When you’re singing in the car (admit it, we all do it), we feel like a rock star. Our voice is in perfect pitch and we begin to ponder whether we missed out on our true calling in life.
We feel, in so any words, like we’re flying.
And then that moment happens when the song suddenly ends and we hear the remnants of what was really a bit of, shall we say, a musical disaster. It’s at this point that our balloon of rock stardom is popped and we appreciate the skill actual musicians and bands possess. However, we have to keep on driving.
If only an entire rock band would sit and sing in the car with us…
The Foo Fighters have a way of getting the best out of us in all kinds of life’s moments.
We feel, in so many words, like we’re always learning to fly.
This is Italy’s Call
Posted by jimmy11lentz
What do you get when 1,000 random Italian musicians collaborate together to play and sing “Learn to Fly” by the Foo Fighters in perfect harmony in an effort to get said band to play a show in Cesena, Italy?
I’m glad you’re curious.
That video was rock n’ roll and the Foo Fighters are rock n’ roll. Dave Grohl is currently playing shows with a broken leg, so I think it’s safe to say that this dream will become a reality.
In the meantime, thank you Italy for showing the world the best of you.
